Waldgeflüster is a metal band from Bavaria , founded in 2005 by Jan "Winterherz" van Berlekom as a solo project , which has been under contract with Black Blood Records, the sub-label of Einheit Produktionen , since 2009 . Since their appearance at Summer Breeze 2014, Waldgeflüster has acted as a complete band.
history
The project was founded in 2005 in Sankt Pölten, Lower Austria, by Winterherz, the singer and guitarist of the death metal band Scarcross , because he saw no connection with black metal in the band . In December 2005 the singer started recording his first demo CD, using two guitars and a drum computer .
In 2006 the demo Voices in the Wind was produced and released via Irminsul Records.
In 2007, two musicians , Alex Lechner ( electric guitar ) and Gleb ( drums ), joined the live line-up, making concerts possible. Later, Noctar, a second guitarist joined the live line-up. So far, Waldgeflüster has played in Austria (in St. Pölten and Vienna ), Germany (among others in Berlin , Rosenheim and Ingolstadt ) and at the Dunkelheit Festival in Brno / Czech Republic . The pagan metal band Helfahrt is a sporadic live partner.
In 2009 the album Herbstklagen was released on Black Blood Records. Shortly after the release of Herbstklagen, Winterherz was in the process of recording songs for the new album. In addition, the live line up Waldgeflüsters has changed and now consists largely of the members of Scarcross. On May 27, 2011, Femundsmarka: A Journey in Three Chapters was released, the second studio album on Black Blood Records. In the meantime, Winterherz's brother P. has joined the project. Like the debut album Herbstklagen , Femundsmarka is a pure concept album . It includes the experiences of the two musicians that they made during their trekking trip through Norway .
Between 2008 and 2010 the band gave concerts with well-known bands from Pagan - or Black Metal , such as Helfahrt , Finsterforst , Kampfar , Negură Bunget , Heidevolk and Odroerir .
In April 2012, Waldgeflüster played for the first time at the Ragnarök Festival . On July 8, 2012, Waldgeflüster played for the first time in Italy . The performance took place in Retorbido . The day before the band played for the first time in Nice , France . On September 24th, the band played with Der Weg einer Freiheit in Munich . On August 29, 2013 Winterherz announced on his Facebook profile that the project was working on his third studio album. Tobias Schuler from Der Weg einer Freiheit could be won as a guest drummer. It was also announced that more guest musicians should be heard. In the meantime, Waldgeflüster signed a contract with Bindrune Recordings , which will distribute the band's third album in North America . It is planned for January 2014. Meine Fesseln finally appeared on January 10, 2014. The group played for the first time in 2014 at the Summer Breeze in Dinkelsbühl . Shortly before the performance, Winterherz announced that he had formed a band from the project with which he would like to work long-term.
style
Waldgeflüster combines melodic black metal influences with isolated acoustic and folkloric passages. In contrast to traditional Black Metal, the lyrics are not about Satanism , but about nature and Germanic mythology , which is why the band is often assigned to Pagan Metal . Winterherz is a critic of the pagan metal scene. He is of the opinion that paganism is more than Odin or Methorn . It is mainly about spirituality and respect, as well as respect for nature.
The lyrics are written by Jan van Berlekom himself. In an interview, he said that the lyrics should come from his mind and reflect his feelings. He himself describes the style of music as "Emotional Black Metal".
Nils Herzog from Musikreviews.de describes the CD as an “ideology-free, melancholy-gloomy ode to nature”. Erik from metal.de writes that Waldgeflüster plays "wonderful atmospheric Black Metal, which with its epic-romantic nature convincingly carries on the legacy of classics such as Ulvers debut album ' Bergtatt '".
Winterherz, the founder of the project, is strictly against right-wing extremist attitudes in the music scene and is convinced that music doesn't need a “ leader ”.
The German online retail store EMP describes Waldgeflüster's style as "melancholy Black Metal, an individual mix of black metallic and nature -loving content for fans of Hel , Empyrium and also von Horn ".

After the debut album had already achieved a great response in the online media (reviews from Vampster and Powermetal.de, among others ), the follow-up work Femundsmarka , which appeared on Black Blood at the end of May 2011, also received greater media interest. The rock-hard editor Björn Thorsten Jaschinski rated Femundsmarka with 8 out of 10 possible points. The editorial team of the Legacy chose Femundsmarka at number 25 in their sound check and ended up with it before groups like Suicide Silence , Battle Cross , Norther and Marienbad .
The HammerHeart Brewing Company microbrewery named a beer after their debut album Herbstklagen .
