Marienbad is a dark metal project by Michael Roth ( Eisregen ), which he realized with musicians from The Vision Bleak and Hämatom , among others .
history
According to Roth, he came up with the idea of Marienbad because his grandmother used to tell him stories, sagas and legends from the town of Marienbad, which is supposed to be near Stein-Schönau . The place would no longer exist today. Since this concept did not fit with his main band Eisregen, Roth decided to found the band Marienbad. He announced a publication under this name in the Fleischhaus -Forum (the official freezing rain forum) and in various interviews. As a cast he recruited Yantit (Eisregen), as well as Allen B. Konstanz (The Vision Bleak, Ewigheim ) and West (Hematoma). He had already worked with all four on the Panzerkreutz project . The debut album was released on March 27, 2011 via Massacre Records . The album is available in several versions: as a normal CD, in a DIN-A5 digipak and as an English version ( Opus 1 - Nightfall ). As an Internet single was flame Eight decoupled.
Concept and style of music
The first album Werk 1 - Nachtfall tells the story of the fictional place Marienbad, which Roth claims to have been told by his grandmother. The place would allegedly have been flooded and had to give way to a reservoir . However, twelve residents of the village refused to move and were killed in the floods. In fact, Roth later stated that he had changed the place names and referred to the film Beneath Still Waters , which would also be based on the legends.
Roth himself described the style of the album as Epic Dark Metal . In contrast to his main band, Roth uses clear vocals. The " rolling R " stands in the style of the tradition of the New German Hardship .
reception
The first album was recorded inconsistently. While the reviews on the Internet were mostly positive, the album landed at the bottom of the Richter scale in Rock Hard .
