Meine Fesseln is the third studio album by the German pagan metal solo project Waldgeflüster , which was released on January 10, 2014 via Black Blood Records. It is the first album of the one-man project that was also sold in North America .

Emergence

During the recording, singer Jan van Berlekom (called Winterherz ) was supported by many musicians known in the scene. Work on the first tracks began before the debut album was released. However, the work was interrupted until 2012, before Winterherz was able to process the already existing material.

The first demos were made in 2009, before the release of the debut album Herbstklagen . After three tracks, work on the material was stopped for the time being in order to be able to realize the second album Femundsmarka with his brother . Work on the other pieces on the album was only resumed in 2012. The recording studio was moved into at the end of 2012. The recording work continued until autumn 2013 and was described as "very strenuous" and "tedious". The drums were completely recorded within three days in July by Tobias Schuler - the drummer of Der Weg einer Freiheit and Fuck You and Die . In an interview with Powermetal.de , Winterherz described these three days as the “highlight of the entire recording process”.

During the recording, Winterherz was supported by other guest musicians in addition to Schuler: A. Lunn from Panopticon and Seiðr ( electric guitar , mandolin ), Johann Becker from Austaras and Vukari ( violin ), Janne Väätäinen from Haive ( Kantele ), Lukas Danninger from The Curse is Black ( piano ), Aimo Fuchs ( electronics ) and Arvagr von Dagnir en Gwan ( guest singer ).

Compared to Powermetal.de Winterherz described the music style as a mixture of Black Metal with electronic inserts. Compared to the previous album, Winterherz focused on the melody. He wants to expand the use of clear vocals, because he finds the contrast between normal and guttural singing exciting.

In contrast to Herbstklagen and Femundsmarka , Meine Fesseln is for the first time not a concept album , since, according to Winterherz, each song tells its own story and has its own plot.

resonance

André Gabriel from Metal.de awarded a total of 9 out of 10 possible evaluation points. He was of the opinion that there was at least one emotionally moving song and another that had a chorus that you wanted to listen to again and again. He thinks that these little things are crucial for such an evaluation. He only complained about problems with the clear vocals and the tempos of the pieces.

Hang Mai Le awarded the highest rating on Powermetal.de and rated the album as the best work by the singer Winterherz. At Earshot.at the album received a total of 6 out of 7 possible points. In the review by dark-festivals.de , Meine Fesseln was described as the best Waldgeflüster album to date and achieved 8 out of 10 possible points.
