Heidevolk is a Dutch metal band, which is characterized above all by their clear, two-part male vocals. The band was founded in 2002 and is assigned to pagan and folk metal .

Band history

After the band was founded in 2002, they recorded their first demo tape Het Gelders Volkslied . This was followed in 2005 by the debut album De Strijdlust Is Born under Napalm Records .

In 2007 Heidevolk was on the road together with the German pagan metal band Gernotshagen on the Through The Dark Forest Metal Tour 2007 . The second album Walhalla Wacht followed a year later , from which the single Wodan Heerst and two other songs had already been extracted a few months earlier . In addition, the album De Strijdlust Is Born was re-released together with Wodan Heerst under Napalm Records.

In June 2008 the band separated from the violinist Stefanie Speervrouw due to musical differences.

In 2010 Heidevolk released the third album Uit Oude Grond , for which a music video for the song Nehalennia was shot for the first time . Between September and October 2010 the band played together with Twilight of the Gods , Ensiferum , Equilibrium and Swashbuckle at the Heidenfest .

For March 2011, the band announced that they would perform at several extended shows at the Paganfest . In May 2011, Sebas announced that they would leave the band in autumn.

In 2012 the concept album Batavi was released , which deals with the Roman history of the Netherlands. It was produced by Peter Tägegren .

style

music

Characteristic of Heidevolk's music are the two-part singing, the melodic guitar runs and the occasional use of flute and jaw harp .

Texts

With the exception of the English-speaking Vinland and the bilingual A Wolf In My Heart ( Een Wolf in mijn Hart ), her lyrics are exclusively in Dutch and deal with the history, culture and mythology of Germanic tribes - such as the Saxons, Anglo-Saxons and Batavians. Particular attention is paid to the religion, naming the Germanic gods. The Dutch province of Gelderland is given special consideration due to the origin of the band.
