Swashbuckle ( engl. "Saber rattling") is a Founded in 2005, American pirates - thrash metal band.
history
After meeting at a concert in 2005, Swashbuckle was founded by Admiral Nobeard (vocals, bass) and Commodore Redrum (guitar). Captain Crashride was added as the drummer. In the meantime a second guitarist also belonged to the band; however, he was fired again after a short time. Two demos were recorded under the names Demo and Yo Ho Demo and released in the same year via Poop-Deck Records.
In 2006 Swashbuckle went into a studio and recorded their debut album, Crewed by the Damned , which was released on October 10, 2006 via Bald Freak Music. For the album, all tracks already released on the demos were re-recorded.
With many appearances in the New Jersey area, the group quickly made a name for itself in the local scene. In 2008 the band took part in a young talent competition on Myspace , which was hosted by Nuclear Blast . Swashbuckle emerged as the winner from around 3000 participating bands. They were also able to sign a management contract through the Kataklysm front man Maurizio Iacono. Even Ron Bumblefoot 'Thal is one of the supporters of the band, since he had seen her once at a gig. According to the band members, Thal has mentor status for the group. For Back to the Noose he also contributed some guitar solos.
On July 24, 2009, the second album Back to the Noose was released via Nuclear Blast. Previously, the video for Cruise Ship Terror was presented on May 19 ; a total of four video trailers for the album followed in June and July. Since July 16, the entire album can be listened to as an audio stream on Myspace .
Due to the deal with Nuclear Blast, the band has already performed a few gigs at festivals in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in 2009 and was also booked for the Paganfest and the Wacken Open Air 2009. The official release party for Back to the Noose took place at Wacken Open Air on July 31st .
In April 2010 it was announced that drummer Captain Crashride had left the band. He was replaced by Boatswain Collins.
On September 10, 2010, the third studio album was released, entitled Crime Always Pays . Anna Murphy and Meri Tadić von Eluveitie have guest appearances on the album .
In early April 2011 it was announced that Legendary Pirate King Eric will replace "The" Brown Bootsman Collins on drums.
style
Swashbuckle play a mixture of fast-paced hardcore punk and thrash metal . In this regard, they have musical parallels to bands like Municipal Waste . The vocals also show clear Death Metal influences. Individual songs already go in the direction of Grindcore , so that these pieces have lengths of less than a minute. On their albums there are also short, acoustic interludes to loosen up. On the album Back to the Noose played Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal and "Diamond" Dave Davidson ( Revocation a) some solos. Furthermore, the band is often incorrectly referred to as a pagan metal band. Since her lyrics are exclusively about pirates and not about pagan topics, this term is misused here. The band members cite old school thrash bands like SOD , Anthrax and Megadeth , but also bands like Death and Blind Guardian as influences.
