Alf Peter Tägegren (born June 3, 1970 near Stockholm ) is a Swedish multi-instrumentalist , composer and producer in the field of metal . He is the singer and head of the musical projects Hypocrisy and Pain . He also appears with the Lindemann project .

As a producer at Abyss Studios , Tägtgren has worked with numerous bands, including Amon Amarth , Children of Bodom , Destruction , Dimmu Borgir and Sabaton .

Career

Tagtgren's main influences were thrash metal and the band Kiss . Tagtgren started playing the drums at the age of seven. For his first band, Conquest, he learned to play the guitar in order to be able to write songs. The band's music was based on the popular metal bands of the 1980s. He later learned the electric bass and keyboard.

After Conquest broke up, he emigrated to the United States , where he made contact with Malevolent Creation guitarist Phil Fasciana. They played some rehearsal sessions where he came into contact with death metal. Tagtgren promised them that after a year they would have their own band with a record deal.

In 1991 he founded his death metal solo project Seditious, for which he recorded all the instruments and received a record deal with Nuclear Blast . After the first demo recording, he turned the project into a band.

In 1994 he took over the Abyss Studio in Stockholm and one year later moved to Pällby, where he still lives today. He bought the entire village and ruled it as mayor.

In 1999 Tagtgren's older brother Tommy produced the album The Apocalypse Manifesto by Enthroned , in which Peter was involved as a sound engineer. Since then they have been involved in many albums together. In addition, Tommy produced the heavy metal band Sabaton until 2010 , which has had Peter produce their albums since the album Carolus Rex .

During the recording of the Pain album Dancing with the Dead , he suffered a brief cardiac arrest . Tagtgren recovered quickly; later this incident inspired him to write the song Dancing with the Dead on the album of the same name.

With the band Bloodbath he was the singer for the album Nightmares Made Flesh , as well as with Lock Up on the debut album Pleasure Pave Sewers . He also had a black metal side project called The Abyss with the rest of the then Hypocrisy formation , with Peter Tägtgren playing and singing drums and electric bass , Lars Szöke and Mikael Hedlund each an electric guitar . With Szöke and Hedlund he also played for War at times .

In 2006 Tagtgren played a minor supporting role in the Swedish thriller Exit (2006). The song Walking on Glass from the album Psalms of Extinction can also be heard in one scene.

In January 2015, Till Lindemann and Tägegren announced that they had jointly founded the alternative metal formation Lindemann , which released the debut album Skills in Pills on June 19, 2015 .

Tagtgren is married. His son Sebastian is also a musician and played drums on the Pain album Coming Home .

singing

Tagtgren has mastered both clear singing and the guttural techniques of growling and screaming. He himself is averse to the sound of his voice and does not see himself as a singer.
