Predator (proper spelling: ЯaubtieR ) is a Swedish metal - band , which in 2008 Haparanda was founded. Unlike many other metal bands are the lyrics, apart from Dragunov and the Prelude of Överlevare , without exception, in Swedish. Predator published exclusively in Scandinavia.

history

Predator was founded in 2008 by former Viperine members Pär Hulkoff and Mathias Lind . Hulkoff is the singer, guitarist, keyboardist and main composer of the band, Lind is the drummer. The current bass player is Jonas Kjellgren . According to their own statement, all band members are involved in the creation of the songs.

Hulkoff came up with the name "predator" when he visited his brother in Berlin ; they were watching the movie Predator and Hulkoff thought the German translation of the title was a good band name.

After the first single Kamphund was successfully recorded by the listeners of the Swedish radio station Bandit Rock , the band released their first album Det finns bara krig (“There is only war”) on March 25, 2009 . Two music videos for Kamphund and Achtung panzer were released for the album . The video for Kamphund was recorded in an old slaughterhouse in Haparanda. Two more singles, Achtung Panzer and Legoknekt ("mercenaries"), were later released from the album .

The next single, Världsherravilder ("Weltherrschaft"), was released on April 19, 2010 and was part of the second album, Skriet Från Vildmarken ("The Scream from the Wilderness" or "Call of the Wilderness"), which was released on September 22nd 2010 came on the market. The video for Världsherravilder was directed by the Swedish photographer Bingo Rimér.

Since 2012 the band has been pursuing their country side project Bourbon Boys together with Scar Symmetry bassist Kenneth Seil . In 2017, Hulkoff founded his solo project, which lyrically focuses more on Nordic mythology and musically uses orchestral carpets of sound as a predator. In 2018 his debut album Kven was released on his own label Faravid Recordings, under which Raubtier has also operated since 2019. On May 3, the pre- single Ovtjarka of the sixth Predator album Överlevare ( Eng . "Survivor") was released.

style

The lyrics are shaped by Pär Hulkoff's experience as an infantryman in the Swedish army and a hunter. Despite the fact that these sometimes appear martial, the band distances itself from violence and racism on their website . Often parallels are drawn to Rammstein .

Lex J. Oven wrote on March 20, 2016 for metalunderground.at :

“RAUBTIER is a slightly more special combo from Sweden. The basic structure consists of cold, sterile, dead, Rammstein riffs, to which Swedish lyrics with a rrr rolling 'R' are presented in growl. The keyboards provide the melody.

Relationships with other bands and musicians

There is a good friendship between Pär Hulkoff and the bassist of the power metal band Sabaton , Pär Sundström . In December 2010, Raubtier played in the opening act of the group's “World War Tour”, which led through several Scandinavian countries. On May 8, 2012, the third studio album Från Norrland Till Helvetets Port was released. Because the two guitarists from Sabaton wanted to leave the band in 2012, Sundström Hulkoff called with the intention of winning him over as a guitarist for Sabaton, but Hulkoff declined because of his work with Predator. A little later Hulkoff called back to recommend Englund and give him his number. After meeting Joakim Brodén and Sundström in Stockholm , Englund became part of the band. In 2014, En hjältes väg was recorded by Sabaton as a bonus track for the album Heroes .

Swedish multi-instrumentalist Snowy Shaw sang Opus Magni with Hulkoff as a duet on the Predator album Pansargryning . Hulkoff and Kjellgren appeared in Shaw's video Alcoholocaust .
