Bloodbath ( English for 'blood bath') is a death metal supergroup from Stockholm , Sweden .
history
Bloodbath was founded by Mikael Åkerfeldt ( Opeth ), Dan Swanö ( Edge of Sanity , Nightingale , Infestdead, etc.), Anders Nyström and Jonas Renkse (both Katatonia ). Since the founding members were mainly active in other bands, Bloodbath concerts were only possible through changes in the line-up.
After the release of the first studio album Resurrection Through Carnage , singer Åkerfeldt left the band, he was replaced in 2004 by Peter Tägtgren ( Hypocrisy ). Furthermore, the drums were replaced with Martin Axenrot ( Opeth , Witchery, Satanic Slaughter), as Dan Swanö switched to guitar. After the second studio album Nightmares Made Flesh was recorded, Tägtgren left the band immediately. At a live performance in 2005, Åkerfeldt jumped in as a singer. In 2006 Swanö also left the band.
Bloodbath went permanently without a singer until Åkerfeldt rejoined in 2008. The guitarist Per Eriksson also joined, so that the EP Unblessing The Purity was recorded and released on March 10, 2008. This was immediately followed by the live recording The Wacken Carnage from 2005.
Because the Bloodbath members spend most of their time with their "main bands", there were only seven performances by Bloodbath until 2014, three of which took place in Germany. In 2005 they played at the Wacken Open Air , in 2008 they could be seen at the Party.San Open Air and the Pellavarock Fest in Finland . In 2010 they performed at the Rock Hard Festival and Hellfest , the Graspop Metal Meeting and the Bloodstock Open Air .
In April 2012 the band announced on their website that singer Mikael Åkerfeldt had left Bloodbath. Another album, with a new singer, was originally planned for 2013. In September 2014 Paradise Lost Frontman Nick Holmes was confirmed as the new singer, the following album entitled Grand Morbid Funeral was released on November 17, 2014 via Peaceville .
With Nick Holmes as the singer, Bloodbath played at more festivals in 2015 than ever before, including Wacken Open Air , Hellfest , Sweden Rock Festival , Summerbreeze , Party.San , Brutal Assault , Tuska Open Air Metal Festival , Vagos Open Air . A first in club gig in London took place on December 18, 2015, and a few months later they performed at 70000 Tons of Metal .
In the spring of 2018, Bloodbath took a short tour to North America, where they also played in Canada for the first time. Shortly after their return, they announced an extensive tour planned for December 2018 to support Kreator , Dimmu Borgir and Hatebreed .
The fifth studio album entitled "The Arrow Of Satan Is Drawn" was released on October 26th, 2018. Guitarist Joakim Karlsson ( Craft ) was announced as the new band member and successor to Per Eriksson . In 2019 it was announced that Karlsson had left the band.
