Lock Up is a Deathgrind - supergroup that in 1998 in Birmingham , UK was established. The members were or are members of various bands such as Cradle of Filth , Dimmu Borgir , Napalm Death , Hypocrisy or At the Gates .

history

The band was formed in 1998 by drummer Nicholas Howard Barker and bassist Shane Embury . A short time later, guitarist Jesse Pintado also joined the band. Together they played some songs and recorded them in the backstage recording studio under the direction of Andy Sneap without a singer. With Peter Tägegren the band found a suitable singer and they recorded the soundtrack for the vocals in the Abyss Studio . The debut album Pleasure Pave Sewers was released in December 1999.

Tomas Lindberg took over the position of singer for the Wacken Open Air in 2000 . At the festival Tägegren was heard again as a singer with a song. This was followed by five appearances with Decapitated in Poland and Great Britain. After that the band developed new pieces for another album. The band entered a local recording studio called Framework in Birmingham in 2001 . The album was produced by Russ Russell . Hate Breeds Suffering was released in early 2002 and voted "Album of the Month" in Terrorizer . In July 2002 a tour of Japan followed and Lock Up played at the Extreme the Dojo festival together with Will Haven and Converge . A live album of these performances was released in 2005 on Toy's Factory Records and in 2007 on Embury's label FETO Records .

In August 2006, Pintado died of liver failure as a result of alcohol consumption. Since he was a close friend of the band members, the project was initially discontinued. In 2009 the band was supposed to play at the Damnation Festival in Great Britain. Anton Reisenegger , a good friend of Embury, became the band's new guitarist. Following the Damnation Festival, the band wrote new pieces and made some demo recordings. In October 2010 they recorded the album Necropolis Transparent at HVR Studios in Ipswich under the direction of Dan Biggin (bassist with Criminal ). In January 2011, Sneap mixed the album at Backstage Studios near Derby , UK. On July 1, 2011, Necropolis Transparent was released through Nuclear Blast . In November 2014 singer Tomas Lindberg left the band and was replaced by Kevin Sharp ( Brutal Truth ).

style

Lock Up play a mixture of Death Metal and Grindcore. Characteristic for the music of the band is the simple structure of the songs, the guttural singing and the aggressiveness of the songs caused by quickly played blast beats and the already mentioned guttural singing.
