Tomas “Goatspell” / “Tompa” Lindberg is a Swedish punk and metal musician who has been active since the late 1980s.

Life

Lindberg began his musical career as the singer of the band Grotesque under the pseudonym Goatspell. After they broke up, he founded the melodic death metal band At the Gates . This dissolved after the album Slaughter of the Soul ; Lindberg, who had grown tired of Death Metal at that time, founded the hardcore band Hide . The band At the Gates has since been reformed. In 1995 Lindberg sang three tracks on Ceremonial Oaths Carpet , while Anders Fridén from In Flames took over the vocals on the remaining four tracks.

The logo of the band Darkthrone was designed by Lindberg together with Tassilo and Darkthrone's drummer Fenriz .

After that, Lindberg was active in various other projects and the punk and metal scene . He looked at bands like Hide , The Crown , Disfear , Skitsystem and grindcore - supergroup Lock Up with. In the latter, he performed with Napalm Death members Shane Embury (electric bass) and Jesse Pintado (electric guitar), as well as the former Dimmu Borgir drummer Nicholas Barker . He also sang for the Stockholm band Sacrilege GBG on their European tour in 1996, when drummer and singer Daniel Svensson ( In Flames ) struggled to do both at the same time.

He also works with the Gothenburg band The Great Deceiver , which differs from his previous works. It is a product of the Gothenburg melodic death metal scene mixed with influences from The Cure and Joy Division .

Lindberg also worked with Nightrage . Shortly after their second album Descent into Chaos (2005), he left the band and was replaced by Jimmie Strimell . Lindberg was guest singer on Darkest Hours The Sadist Nation , Nail Withins Dirty Colored Knife and Under the Spell , Area 54s Cancer of the Mind , Slowmotion Apocalypses The Blessing , Transistor Transistors White Knives , Misery Index ' Ruling Class Canceled , Necronauts Rise of the Sentinel , Salem's The Mark of the Beast Part 2 and Converges version of the Entombed title Wolverine Blues .

Lindberg is a trained teacher of geography, social studies, politics, history and religion. He has several children.

ideology

Lindberg plays in more melodic bands like At the Gates and Nightrage as well as in crustier, more punk-heavy bands like Skitsystem and Disfear. When asked if any of these sides was closer to him, he replied that most of the more melodic bands were not founded by him, unlike Skitsystem and The Great Deceiver. Musically, lyrically and politically he is closer to ideas from punk / hardcore; his approach is accordingly more left-wing . Lindberg is a representative of historical materialism ; he is convinced that everything has an economic meaning and happens because someone gains something from the situation. This drives the story forward. For him, the concept of writing lyrics has always been to work through different topics and find your own point of view; this was also the case when he wrote more occult and mystical texts for grotesque. He always tried to find different ways and experiment with different ideas to see what he might come across.
