The Great Deceiver is a Swedish hardcore punk and death metal band from Gothenburg that was formed in 1998.
history
The band was formed in 1998 and released the EP Jet Black Art in 2000 via Bridge Records in Europe . Shortly afterwards she also appeared in the USA on Trustkill Records . Then the band consisted of the singer Tomas Lindberg ( At the Gates , The Haunted ), the guitarists Kristian Wåhlin and Johan Österberg and the drummer Hans Nilsson. After the release, Nilsson left the band and was replaced by Kalle Anderson. The band then worked on their debut album, but the work stalled several times as Lindberg was busy with other projects such as Lock Up and The Crown . In 2002 the debut album A Venom Well Designed was released . In December of the same year, the band went on tour through Great Britain with Napalm Death . In March 2004 the second album Terra Incognito followed on Peaceville Records, that of Daniel Bergstrand and Misery-Loves-Co. Guitarist Örjan Örnkloo was produced. In addition, a music video was created for the song Lake of Sulphar under the direction of Patric Ullaeus. In 2007 the next album, Life Is Wasted on the Living, followed on Deathwish Records .
style
The band's music is described as a mixture of Sepultura's Roots album and Neurosis . metal.de describes the music as death metal with hardcore influences. The comparison drawn in the promotional text for the album A Venom Well Designed with At the Gates, disbelief and Type O Negative can be agreed with the exception of the latter band. The Metal Observer also notes a few influences from Nu Metal on Terra Incognito .
