The Haunted [də hɔ: ntɪd] is a thrash metal - band with influences from the melodic death metal from Gothenburg , Sweden .
history
Although The Haunted is often treated as the successor to At the Gates , the founding initiative came from Patrik Jensen (Witchery, ex-seance), who teamed up with former At the Gates drummer Adrian Erlandsson in July 1996 to help a couple Songs to work for a common band. A short time later they joined bassist Jonas Björler, also a former member of At the Gates. Only after the band was dissatisfied with second guitarist John Zwetsloot (Ex-Dissection) after a month did Jonas twin brother and ex-At-the-Gates member Anders Björler join as a replacement. Peter Dolving ( Mary Beats Jane ) was recruited as the singer . The band was then signed by the Earache Records label , as some of At the Gates' albums were still outstanding with the company. Thus, The Haunted released their debut album of the same name in 1998. The band then toured Europe for promotional purposes with Napalm Death .
In November 1998 Dolving left the band and was replaced by Marco Aro (ex-Face Down) in March 1999. Before the start of the pending North American tour together with Testament , drummer Erlandsson switched to the British dark metal band Cradle of Filth , but a replacement was soon found in Per Möller Jensen (ex-Invocator). In this constellation, The Haunted released their second album The Haunted Made Me Do It in October 2000 . In addition, the live recording during a concert in Tokyo in November 2000 was processed into a live album entitled Live Rounds In Tokyo . The accompanying video recordings as well as those of a performance in Malmö, Sweden in March 2001 were also released on DVD under the title The Haunted Caught On Tape . Furthermore, Anders Björler left the band for a short time in 2001 to take up university studies, but reversed his decision a short time later and surprisingly returned to the band at the end of 2002, after being represented on tour by Marcus Sunesson (The Crown), briefly before she went to the studio to record her third album One Kill Wonder . The album was released in February 2003 and reached number 23 in the Swedish album charts . This was followed by tours through South Africa, Europe and the USA.
Despite the success, the band surprisingly announced in October 2003 the departure of singer Marco Aro and the re-entry of his predecessor Peter Dolving. The fourth studio album rEVOLVEr was released in 2004 under the record label Century Media . This was followed by tours of Great Britain, Europe and the USA including an appearance at Ozzfest on July 15, 2005 in Mansfield, Massachusetts.
After the band had made a few appearances in both Japan and Australia in 2006, the fifth studio album The Dead Eye was recorded in Aarhus, Denmark in May 2006 and released the following October. The album reached number 14 on the Swedish album charts. Further tours through the USA and Europe followed.
In March 2008 the band returned to the studio in Denmark to record songs for a new album with producer Tue Madsen, which they had been working on since October 2007. All songs were recorded live in the studio in April 2008 to highlight , according to some band members, the energy and true spirit of The Haunted . Then Peter Dolving recorded the vocal tracks separately and mixed them with the songs. The sixth studio album Versus was released on September 19, 2008 in Germany. The Haunted won the Swedish Metal Awards 2009 in the category 'Best Metal Album of 2008' with the album . This was followed in 2009 by a tour of Europe as the co- headliner of All That Remains , as well as his own USA / Canada tour, which was mainly accompanied by Merauder and The Agonist .
In April 2009 Earache Records released a compilation entitled Warning Shots as a double CD, which combines songs from the first four albums of The Haunted and demo recordings as well as old bonus tracks from the Swedish and Japanese versions. As a result, the compilation consists only of previously published pieces to which Earache had secured the rights.
A year later, The Haunted responded to the long-standing wishes of many fans and released a live album with singer Peter Dolving in April 2010. These are audio and video recordings that were made during The Haunted Versus Europe Tour on February 13, 2009 in Amsterdam. The DVD also includes a 65-minute self-produced documentary entitled On the Road with The Haunted . The footage comes from recordings made during a ten day UK tour in February 2005. In addition, the last six official music videos have been added to the DVD, as well as five studio bonus tracks that were created during the recording of Versus on the CD .
In October and November 2010 the seventh studio album was recorded at Antfarm Studios in Århus, Denmark. The album is titled Unseen and was again produced, mixed and mastered by Tue Madsen. The release date in Europe was March 21, 2011. On the Swedish TV show P3 Guld 2011, the band already gave a foretaste of the work by performing the song No Ghost live to the audience . It was confirmed that the style of the new album differs significantly from the previous albums, as Peter Dolving had already announced in several interviews. On the one hand, the tempo known for The Haunted was reduced and on the other hand, more emphasis was placed on melody and 'clean' vocals.
On February 29, 2012 it was announced that Peter Dolving had left the band. In October 2012, Anders Björler and Per Möller Jensen also left The Haunted .
In April 2013, founding member Adrian Erlandsson and former singer Marco Aro returned to the cast; The new guitarist was Ola Englund (Six Feet Under, Feared).
The album Exit Wounds was recorded in 2014, followed by the album Strength in Numbers in 2017 .
