Mary Beats Jane was a Swedish thrash metal band that later played crossovers .

Band history

Mary Beats Jane was founded in Gothenburg in 1991 by Peter Asp (drums), who was also active in the doom metal band Stillborn at the time , the guitarists Magnus Nyberg and Urban Olsson, and the bassist Tommy Apelquist . The unusual band name was based on an argument between two friends of the band members.

After the entry of singer Peter Dolving, the band recorded the demo Hulk / Dead , which was especially popular in the skater scene at the time . It would be two more years before they could release the self-titled debut album . The album was published by the major label Universal . The music is new type of Thrash Metal in the style of Machine Head with borrowings from 1970s hard rock and punk music . In their home country they were awarded the Grammis, the "Swedish Grammy ", for the album .

1997, with the successor Locust , Mary Beats Jane got into the grunge wave and adapted her style. Outside their home country, however, the band remained unsuccessful and broke up in 1998. Peter Dolving then joined The Haunted as a singer.
