Merauder is an American metalcore band from New York .

history

The band was formed in 1990. A short time later, performances with Carnivore , Sick of It All , Motörhead , Morbid Angel and Cro-Mags followed . The band was first heard on the compilation East Coast Assault with the song Fear of Sin . Then singer Minus left the group, whereupon Merauder consisted of singer Jorge Rosado in addition to guitarists Anthony Muccini and Javier "Sob" Carpio, bassist Rick Lopez and drummer Pokey.

In 1995 a split -release followed with Stigmata and a tour with Biohazard on the east coast of the USA. In addition, the band went on tour through Great Britain in April 1996 with Stuck Mojo , Power of Expression , Slapshot and Turmoil .

After signing a contract with Century Media , the band recorded the debut album Master Killer with producer Parris Mayhew (Cro-Mags) . The release was followed by a tour with Fear Factory and then further appearances in Europe , where the band went on tour through Germany together with Böhse Onkelz and Pro-Pain and played in front of up to 15,000 people.

Due to the ongoing touring, the second album Five Deadly Venoms was recorded in various locations between 1998 and 1999. During this time singer Rosado left the band for a short period and was replaced by Eddie Sutton during this period. The album was produced by AJ Novello ( Leeway ). After the audio carrier was released in 1999, Dave Chavarri ( Ill Niño ) joined the line-up as the new drummer.

With producer Billy Milano , the band recorded their next album, Bluetality , which was released in 2002. Around February 2005 the band went on a US tour with Agents of Man , Hoods and Blacklisted . After guitarist Carpio died on May 1, 2006, the project was paused for the time being.

In 2007 Century Media released the first three albums as a compilation under the name Master Killers: A Complete Anthology . Meanwhile, front man Jorge Rosada formed a new line-up with guitarists Dave Stafford and Darian Polach, bassist Drew Smerdon and drummer Bobby Blood. This was followed by a tour with Exodus and Obituary , before the group recorded the album God Is I , which was released in late June 2009 via Regain Records .

style

The band plays music comparable to the works of Biohazard and Pro-Pain and is one of the first to mix Hardcore Punk with Thrash Metal. Merauder had an influence on classic metalcore bands like Hatebreed and Heaven Shall Burn , who have already covered pieces by the band. The debut album Master Killer can be compared with works by Thrash Metal bands like Sepultura from their early to middle creative phase or Slayer , only in a more relaxed and street-bound variant. In the songs, the use of guitars is more solid characteristic, which, however, according to Markus Kavka from Metal Hammer thereby quickly into a "bastard of the songs Machine Head would turn and Biohazard for the poor". On Five Deadly Venoms , the band played conservative hardcore punk that managed almost without melodic influences. The singing is described as monotonous, which is limited to the typical hardcore shouting . Compared to its predecessors, however, front man Jorge Rosado tried to open up musically and sprinkled ballad-like melodies in the song Find My Way . As the main influence for the change in music, he cited the band Fear Factory . The title of the album was chosen after the Kung Fu film of the same name . The band played classic metalcore on Bluetality , although the music is described as not very innovative compared to the bands of the time, such as Killswitch Engage . The band also played classic metalcore on God Is I , the speed of which is mostly in the mid-tempo range. In addition to the hardcore or thrash metal-typical shouts, the use of double bass was also characteristic on the album .
