Leeway was an American thrash metal / hardcore band from Astoria (New York) .

history

The band was founded in December 1983 by guitarist AJ Novello and singer Eddie Sutton under the name The Unruled . In September 1984 the name was changed to Leeway .

They mostly played live at the CBGB in New York City , a club known for playing hardcore bands. From the beginning, they stood out from other bands of the genre through their appearance and their musical borrowings from metal and hip-hop . However, through personal networking with New York Hardcore bands and joint appearances with them, they were accepted as part of the hardcore scene, especially since New York hardcore bands such as Agnostic Front or Warzone opened up to metal from the mid-1980s . Before they even recorded their first album, they opened concerts for well-known bands such as Exodus , Nuclear Assault and Suicidal Tendencies .

In 1988 Leeway brought out the album Born to Expire and supported it in 1989 with a tour with the band Bad Brains . Until 1995, the band released three more albums and toured extensively throughout Europe , but was never particularly famous or successful. In 1995, after recording their last album, Open Mouth Kiss , the band split.

In 2006, during a concert with the Bad Brains in the CBGB, there was a short-lived reunion with the original line-up.

In 2008, the song Enforcer was released from their first album Born to Expire as part of the video game Grand Theft Auto IV . There it was played by the fictional hardcore radio station “LCHC”.

Drummer Mo has played with Both Worlds since 1993 and joined Agnostic Front in the 2000s .
