Nuclear Assault is a thrash metal band formed in New York , (NY) in 1984 . The band was initiated by Dan Lilker , a former bass player for Anthrax .
history
Because of uncontrollable drug use, Dan Lilker had to leave Anthrax in 1984 and then founded Nuclear Assault . After a demo recording in the same year, the band was put on hold in favor of the hardcore side project SOD . After an album had been recorded with this fun project, it split up again, so that in 1985 Lilker called Nuclear Assault again. After a second demo, the band released their debut album Game Over in 1986 on Combat Records . Further albums and EPs were released in quick succession until the late 1980s .
In the early 1990s the band got into a crisis. Dan Lilker left the band after the unsuccessful Out of Order album, which released another album and then split up in 1994. On May 4th 1997 there was a reunion concert with Lilker on bass, but no further activities took place. A real reunion only came about in 2002. The band began a tour and initially released the live recording in 2003, Alive Again . In 2005 a new album followed after twelve years with Third World Genocide , which, however, in the opinion of critics and fans did not come close to the albums of the 1980s. The EP Pounder was released in early June 2015 .
style
Similar to Lilker's well-known side project SOD , the band's style is Thrash Metal with borrowings from Hardcore Punk and Grindcore , which is reflected in some very short and fast songs ( Hang The Pope , My America ) and politically motivated lyrics. In terms of lyrics, the band primarily focuses on environmental pollution ( The Plague , Handle With Care , Critical Mass ) and nuclear war ( Nuclear War , Radiation Sickness ). In addition, certain satirical - parodic approaches in the critical handling of clichés can be recognized ( Mr. Softee Theme , My America ).
