Stuck Mojo is a Founded in 1989 Crossover - band from Atlanta , USA . In addition to bands like Rage Against the Machine , Stuck Mojo are among the pioneers in the genre of rap metal.
history
1989 to 2000
Stuck Mojo was founded in 1989 by guitarist Rich Ward , bassist Dwayne Fowler and drummer Richard Farmer. A little later, the line-up was completed with singer and rapper Bonz. Both the fact that Bonz is African American and the unusual combination of metal with rap singing resulted in negative, sometimes violent reactions during performances. After founding member Richard Farmer was replaced by drummer Brent Payne, Stuck Mojo recorded the first demo in 1993 . On the recommendation of Monte Connor of Roadrunner Records , the band was signed by Century Media in 1994 . The line-up changed again with Corey Lowery (bass) and Bud Fontsere (drums) and Stuck Mojo released the debut album Snappin 'Necks in 1995 . This was followed by appearances in Europe and a US tour as the opening act for Machine Head . In early 1996 the EP Violated was released . The second album Pigwalk followed in the summer of 1996 , produced by Devin Townsend and Daniel Bergstrand. 1997 accompanied the band Testament and Type O Negative on tour. The final breakthrough came in 1998 with the album Rising , produced by Andy Sneap . In the US alone, the album sold around 50,000 times in 1998. Before the 1999 tour bassist Lowery left the band for Life Of Agony , he was replaced with Dan Dryden. The six-month tour ended with a concert in Atlanta, where the recordings for the live album HYV1 were recorded. The next studio album, Declaration of a Headhunter , was released in 2000 , and rumors of an imminent breakup of Stuck Mojo increased. Around the turn of the year 2000/2001 the musicians decided to let the band rest due to legal disputes between Century Media and the band management. When the compilation Violate This was released in 2001, the band members already went their separate ways. Rich Ward and Frank Frontsere founded the melodic rock band Sickspeed, and a DVD with the title Inside the Monster: The Evilution of Stuck Mojo Vol. I was released in 2004 .
2005 until today
After four years, Rich Ward decided to reform Stuck Mojo and the band toured Europe in February 2005. In addition to Ward and Bonz, the line-up now consisted of bassist Sean Delson and drummer Eric Sanders. In mid-2006, the preparatory work for the next studio album was completed. Bonz was kicked out of the band because of drug problems, rapper Lord Nelson came for him. Drummer Eric Sanders was replaced by Rodney Beaubouef. The band's fifth studio album, Southern Born Killers , was originally produced without a label and offered as a free download on the Internet. In addition to the download, the band around founder Rich Ward offered the album including a bonus DVD for the first 1000 copies via direct sales. The music video for the song Open Season sparked controversy in the USA after the video platforms Youtube and Google Video blocked it because of suspected Islamophobic content. In numerous appearances on talk shows, guitarist Rich Ward made it clear that the song is directed against Islamist terrorism , but not against Islam as a religion.
In the fall of 2007, Napalm Records signed the band and officially released Southern Born Killers . In the meantime with Mike Martin supplemented by a second guitarist, Stuck Mojo completed a few gigs in Europe and the USA. In early 2008 Steve Underwood was the new drummer and from mid-2008 the band recorded their last album The Great Revival , which was released in November of that year on Napalm Records. Since then, Stuck Mojo has occasionally performed live, but the EP announced for 2012 was never released. The current status of the band is just as unclear as the actual line-up. On December 26, 2014, the band was at the Masquerade in Atlanta, where the 1999 live album HVY1 was recorded, again together for a concert on stage. The concert was performed by Bonz, guitarist Rich Ward, bassist Corey Lowery and drummer Frank Fontsere. This cast appeared on the stage for the first time since 1998.
