Sick of It All (SOIA) is an American hardcore - band in the New York district of Queens , which was founded in the 1986th She has been known in the hardcore scene since the early 1990s.

history

Sick of It All was founded in 1986 alongside the New York hardcore bands Straight Ahead and Rest in Pieces , in which Armand Majidi and Craig Setari were active. After bassist Mark McNielly and drummer David Lamb left the band, Majidi recorded the first sick-of-it-all demo with the Koller brothers and Rich Cipriano. The band started playing at the CBGB's hardcore hangout at Sunday afternoon performances . In 1987 they released an EP titled Sick of It All on Revelation Records .

The band signed with In-Effect Records in 1989 and released their debut album Blood, Sweat and No Tears that same year . The lyrics are about politics, social injustices and life on the streets of New York.

Her album Just Look Around was released in 1992 on the Relativity Records label. The first tours through Europe, South America and Japan followed. Two years later, the band made their breakthrough with Scratch the Surface . The album was released like the 1997 album Built to Last on the WMG major label EastWest . In 1998 Sick of It All switched to Fat Wreck Chords , the record label of NOFX singer Fat Mike, where they recorded the albums Call to Arms , Yours Truly and Life on the Ropes as well as the VHS film The Story so Far and the live recording Live published in a dive .

In 2005 they switched to Century Media's Abacus sub-label, which specializes in metalcore and hardcore , in order to release their album Death to Tyrants there in 2006 . The album was mixed and created by the renowned music producer Tue Madsen ( The Haunted , Heaven Shall Burn , Dark Tranquility ), but still retained the typical sound of the New York hardcore scene. The album was well received by fans and media alike after the band re-released a record after a three year hiatus during which they toured extensively.

A year later the album Our Impact Will Be Felt was released , which was limited to a small number of copies. In April 2010 the album Based on a True Story was released . The British metal community Metal Hammer said:

“Despite their increasing age and tough competition,“ Sick of It All ”are still the best role models for the hardcore scene, as well as useful for social responsibility. With Based on a True Story it will be possible for you to maintain the leading position in the scene and to amaze us with new CDs for many years to come. "

The album was the most successful in Germany to date and also reached number 30 on the US Heatseeker charts.

style

Although Sick Of It All is mostly perceived and referred to as an old school band, they also processed metal elements in their music from the beginning , which is considered typical of the East Coast sound . Like many New York hardcore groups , they also include punk rock and Oi! to their influences. In the course of their band history there are always rough punk pieces next to groovy hardcore with a slight metal influence.
