United States East Coast
As East Coast of the United States ( English East Coast of the United States , Atlantic Seaboard , Eastern Seaboard , or simply East Coast ) refers to the coast of the United States to the open Atlantic Ocean . It is the earliest part of the later United States that was colonized by Europeans . As part of the American Revolution and the American War of Independence , on July 4, 1776, thirteen British colonies declared their detachment from Great Britain and their right to form their own sovereign confederation with the declaration of independence .
Geographical east coast
Geographically, the American east or Atlantic coast extends from the border between Canada and the United States at Lubec , Maine to Key West , Florida and thus extends from 45 to 24 degrees north. Coastal states from north to south include the New England states of Maine, New Hampshire , Massachusetts , Rhode Island, and Connecticut, as well as New York , New Jersey , Delaware , Maryland , Virginia , North Carolina , South Carolina , Georgia, and Florida. Vermont and Pennsylvania are also east coast states, but they are not on the ocean. With 92 million inhabitants ( 2000 census ), these states represent 32 percent of the US population.

The majority of the population of the northern part of the east coast is considered to be liberal . This is shown, for example, by the results of the 2004 presidential election in the United States , when the northern states up to and including Maryland voted for John Kerry , while the southern states voted for George W. Bush . It is also characterized by a relatively high population density; the urban regions from Boston in the north to Washington, DC in the south “grow together”; this metropolitan agglomeration with around 45 million inhabitants is known as Boswash . The Kennedy family, as well as many other influential families in the United States, are also from there ( Brahmins of Boston ).
"East Coast Establishment" and anti-Semitic code word
In the political and sociological field, the term "east coast establishment " is sometimes used . This refers to the US social elite, which is largely concentrated in the area between Washington and New England . In addition to the political capital, this area is home to several important financial and cultural centers ( New York , Boston, Philadelphia , Baltimore ) and the renowned universities of the so-called Ivy League . Mostly the term is used pejoratively , especially to denounce the social inequality in the country.
In anti-Semitic , ideological conspiracy and right-wing extremist jargon , it is used as a code word for the international financial system supposedly dominated by Jews .
Musical term East Coast
In music, especially in hip-hop , the term East Coast describes a style. Places like New York , New Jersey or Philadelphia have shaped this sound. Since New York is known as the birthplace of this movement, the Big Apple in particular stands for the raw, minimalist and dry elements of hip-hop music. A typical New York beat consists of a drum set without a hi-hat with bass and a loop . In contrast to the sound of the west coast ( G-Funk ), which has more influences from the music of George Clinton or Bootsy Collins , the East Coast is still very much oriented towards the old school . Mid-1990s, the so-called went East Coast / West Coast - Beef with the late rapper 2Pac (West Coast) and The Notorious BIG (East Coast) through the media.
