Scratch the Surface is the third studio album by the American hardcore band Sick of It All . It was released by EastWest in October 1994 .

Origin and style

After the notable success of Just Look Around , the band was able to sign a major label deal with EastWest. The label decided to let the band produce their third studio album themselves. The album featured fast pieces like Insurrection as well as live classics like No Cure . The label tried to position the band as the next big punk band with the piece Step Down - at the time of the rise of Green Day and The Offspring - without much success . On the tour to Scratch the Surface , Sick of It All took the then unknown band Korn with them - which also quickly gained popularity as a result.

reception

The album was nevertheless the first of the band to reach a chart position in Germany with number 67. John Franck wrote on Allmusic that the album was meant for more attention, but it never came. It awarded three out of five stars.
