Pro-Pain is an American music group led by singer and bassist Gary Meskil from New York . The band plays a crossover of hardcore and metal . Their style is often simply assigned to Metalcore and New York Hardcore , which bands like Biohazard or Merauder also played in the early 1990s.

history

Gary Meskil, who previously played with the hardcore band Crumbsuckers , founded Pro-Pain in 1992. After several line-up changes, he is the only remaining founding member. To date, the band has 14 studio albums released, in addition, a live album, Best of - and a cover album on which she songs known bands like Motörhead , Böhse Onkelz or Agnostic Front gecovert have. Especially in its earlier phase, her music is characterized by groovy rhythms, guitar sounds and especially Gary Meskil's typical roaring vocals, which sometimes give way to clear vocals or deep growls. Many songs on the later albums deviate from this style. B. through previously non-existent elements such as female background vocals or a stronger use of double bass, the latter sometimes making the music sound more like Death Metal .

The band gained notoriety in Germany through constant live presence, but above all through extensive headlining tours including Postmortem , but also as a support act for the group Böhse Onkelz , which Pro-Pain played on the entire 1998 tour and some outdoor performances , such as the final concert " Vaya con Tioz ”.

In 2011 guitarist Tom Klimchuck dropped out due to health problems. He was replaced by Adam Phillips.

On the night of July 3 to 4, 2017, singer Gary Meskil, who was on a European tour with Pro-Pain, was the victim of a robbery after visiting a pub in the Belgian capital, Brussels . A gang of perpetrators stole his money, ID and credit cards, after which the thieves hit Meskil's head several times with an ice pick , causing him to suffer head trauma, various fractures in his face and jaw and severe blood loss. The police were able to identify the perpetrators. Because of the incident, Pro-Pain had to interrupt their tour.
