Postmortem ( Latin : "after death") is a death metal / thrash metal band from Berlin .

Band history

Postmortem were founded at the end of 1991. After numerous live performances (including complete tours with Crematory and Atrocity ), as well as two demos , the band signed their first record deal with Husky Records in 1993. After that they were back live with Crematory and also big festivals (e.g. Death Comes in Lithuania with Hypocrisy , Bands Battle with Rammstein ) were completed.

The debut album Screams of Blackness was released in 1993 and was re-released in 1998. From the Totmacher - EP , the band moved to some inconsistencies with the old label to Morbid Records . The four releases Der Totmacher (1996), The Age of Massmurder (1997), Repulsion (1998) and Storm Force (EP, 2000) were performed live on numerous tours (including a European tour with Morbid Angel , a Germany tour with Sodom ) and almost all major festivals (for example at Wacken Open Air , With Full Force , Party.San , Dynamo Open Air , Force Attack and Death Comes ). After the contract expired, they separated again from Morbid Records.

In 1998 the band signed a contract for the American market with Pavement Music . The single Join the Figh7club was released as an in-house production and promoted live in 2004 on a European tour with Pro-Pain and Carnal Forge . Harris Johns was responsible for the production of the phonogram . Then the band separated in 2005 from the drummer and the second guitarist. In 2006 a new drummer was found in Max Scheffler. In 2007, Postmortem toured with Ektomorf and Onslaught with a new line-up .

In November 2008 War Anthem Records released an album with Constant Hate after almost 10 years without an official album . It was produced by Andy Classen. After a positive response from fans and press (among other things, Rock Hard was one of the 250 most important death metal records of all time), the CD Seeds of Devastation was released again on November 19, 2010 via War Anthem Records . The anniversary compilation XX followed in 2011 and the album Bloodground Messiah in 2012 .

Parts of the band are involved in a metal bar in Berlin-Friedrichshain , which has been holding a death metal festival called Brutz & Brakel Electric Guitar Festival at the Berlin club HOF in Weißensee since 2010 .

Music genre

Postmortem began as a death metal band with lyrics primarily about serial and mass murderers . The band used subtle texts that dealt with the psychology of the perpetrators. The EP Der Totmacher, for example, is based on the film of the same name with Götz George . The title track is about Fritz Haarmann . At this time the band also experimented with German lyrics. From the beginning, the band adopted a style that was more Thrash Metal-dominant, without completely breaking away from Death Metal. On the album Repulsion the band also played elements of Death 'n' Roll in the style of Entombed or Crack Up . Later the texts dealt more with the splatter topic and horror stories, but current, real topics can also be found in the texts. The band attaches great importance to not wanting to convey any specific statements. Some of the lyrics are humorous, for example the text for Can't Stop killing consists exclusively of Motörhead song titles. The band's music is kept simple and relies primarily on brutality.
