action

The film is about the Jewish girl Yentl from Eastern Europe. Her mother died and her father secretly taught her the teachings of the Talmud - which most Hasidim believe is forbidden. After the death of her father, she disguised herself as a man and called herself Anshel from then on, in order to study at a yeshiva , a religious school. She falls in love with a fellow student named Avigdor.

Avigdor plans to marry a girl named Hadass, but when it is revealed that his brother has committed suicide, Hadass's parents reject him as a son-in-law. Avigdor urges Anshel to marry Hadass so that at least no one else would marry her. Only after the wedding does Yentl Avigdor reveal that she is a woman and loves him. She leaves Poland and emigrates to the USA. Hadass and Avigdor get married.

Reviews
