Marilyn Bergman
Marilyn Bergman (born November 10, 1929 in New York City ; actually Marilyn Keith ) is an American songwriter and songwriter.
Life
Together with her husband Alan Bergman, Bergman is one of the most respected songwriters in the United States . They mainly write film music together . Marilyn Keith first attended New York High School for Music and Art and studied English and Psychology at New York University when she married Alan Bergman in 1958. They have been writing hits for films together since the early 1960s. The Bergmans had their breakthrough with the text for the title song of the film In the Heat of the Night with Sidney Poitier , composed by Quincy Jones in 1967.
The Bergmans and the French composer Michel Legrand have worked together for many years . The highlight of this work was the complete song lyrics for the film Yentl by and with Barbra Streisand, which earned them an Oscar . For Papa, can you hear me from Yentl , they received an Oscar nomination in 1983. But in 1969 Legrand and the Bergmans won an Oscar for the song The Windmills of your Mind for the film The Thomas Crown Affair with Steve McQueen . They won a third Oscar in 1974 for the title song The Way we were , sung by Barbra Streisand. This time Marvin Hamlisch was the composer with whom they later wrote more hits. The film is called the way we were in German . The Bergmans are also responsible for the lyrics to You Don't Bring Me Flowers , which was a worldwide hit for Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand in 1978/79 .
Friendship and songs on almost every album have connected Barbra Streisand with Marilyn Bergman for over thirty years. Marilyn Bergman also developed the scripts for the Streisand's stage shows.
