history

origin

Although the term Death 'n' Roll was first used in connection with Entombed , Daniel Ekeroth, author of Swedish Death Metal , refers to an older band called Furbowl . After Entombed's seminal release of Wolverine Blues , they came to be associated with Death 'n' Roll , a name they have carried with them until now.

Other Swedish death 'n' roll bands are Nine , Vermin and Dellamorte .

Another major death 'n' roll release is Soul Survivor by the band Gorefest . This album is more than a foray into rock music of the 1970s. The band brought proof of the influences during their 1996 tour, when they played songs by AC / DC , Black Sabbath and Deep Purple . (Gorefest reformed again seven years later). Two of its members now play at Live & Dangerous , a Thin Lizzy - tribute band from the Netherlands .

Arguments

When the term is mentioned in interviews with death metal musicians, they usually react with skepticism. Entombed's LG Petrov made the following statement when asked about it:

“We see it as Entombed music, if people see that as death 'n' roll so be it. We just laugh, death 'n' roll, why not? When we write songs, we aren't thinking it has to be a particular style. "

“We see it as entombed music, if others see it as death 'n' roll, then so be it. We just laugh; Death 'n' Roll, why not? When we write our songs, we don't make sure that they have a certain style. "

When Gorefest's Frank Harthoorn was asked about her mixed style of death metal and rock 'n' roll, he replied:

«Estranho, todo mundo semper tem mencionado essa coisa de Death 'N' Roll. Para mim, isso é apenas Metal, claro e simple. Eu nicht acredito que nossas influências sejam diferentes de outras bandas. "

“Strange, everyone keeps mentioning this death 'n' roll thing. For me it's just metal, very easy. I don't think our influences are any different from those of other bands. "

  • Chad Bowar, the heavy metal specialist at About.com, uses the term death 'n' roll in two of his reviews.
  • Roadrunner Records ' news site Blabbermouth describes Hearse as a Swedish death 'n' roll band.
