Six Feet Under is an American death metal band from Florida . The name of the group can be traced back to the American phrase "Six Feet Under" for "to be buried".

history

Chris Barnes, 2009

Six Feet Under was originally a side project founded in 1993 by Chris Barnes , who was still singing with Cannibal Corpse at the time , and Allen West, guitarist for the band Obituary . The band only came into being after Barnes left Cannibal Corpse in 1995 as a result of a dispute and bassist Terry Butler and drummer Greg Gall were added. Allen West left the band in 1998 and was replaced on guitar by Steve Swanson.

The Graveyard Classics albums represent a specialty in the musical work of the band . On Graveyard Classics they acknowledged their rock roots and covered classics by Jimi Hendrix , Deep Purple , Black Sabbath and others. On the album Graveyard Classics 2 , the entire AC / DC album Back in Black was covered.

At the end of 2006, Six Feet Under canceled all Christmas festivals in Europe in order to devote themselves to work on their album Commandment, which was released in the spring .

In May 2008, Chris Barnes withdrew, according to the official homepage, to record the new album, which was released on November 19th under the title Death Rituals . On January 19, 2010 the band released the third part of the Graveyards Classics series, Graveyard Classics 3. On this album, songs by Slayer , Van Halen , Metallica and the Ramones were covered. What is noticeable here is the lower level of awareness of the various songs, no “hits” by the individual bands were covered, but rather songs from the second row.

On February 1, 2011, the band announced that bassist Terry Butler and drummer Greg Gall would leave the band. A day later, drummer Kevin Talley joined the band. A short time later, on February 27, 2011, the band published on their website that Chimaira guitarist Rob Arnold had joined the band as the second rhythm guitarist and songwriter. In February 2012, Matt DeVries left the band and went to Fear Factory . Jeff Hughell (formerly Brain Drill and Vile ) was found to replace him .

Rob Arnold left in 2012 and was replaced at the end of May 2012 by the Swedish guitarist Ola Englund, who plays for Feared and Scarpoint . In 2013, Kevin Talley was replaced by Marco Pitruzzella.

style

In terms of lyrics, the group mainly deals with topics from the areas of zombies , splatter and gore , but many Six Feet Under songs also deal with political topics, e.g. B. the legalization of marijuana , the overthrow of capitalism or anti-war attitudes.
