Cannibal Corpse is an American death metal - band .

history

Cannibal Corpse in 1988 by Paul Mazurkiewicz (drums), Alex Webster (bass), Chris Barnes (vocals), Bob Rusay (electric guitar) and Jack Owen (electric guitar) in Buffalo in the US state of New York was founded. Cannibal Corpse have been under contract with Metal Blade Records since 1989 .

Since the debut album Eaten Back to Life , US politicians like Tipper Gore , Joseph Lieberman or Bob Dole have tried to ban music and concerts. In Australia , New Zealand and Korea , Cannibal Corpse were completely banned for a long time. In Germany the first three albums, the albums Evisceration Plague and Torture as well as the EPs Hammer Smashed Face and Worm Infested are indexed . There is a seizure order against Butchered at Birth according to § 131 StGB of the AG Stuttgart of March 3, 1994 concerning sound carriers, cover and advertising material. The initiative of the indexing procedure came from the teacher Christa Jenal . After bassist Alex Webster admitted in interviews that indexed tracks were played live but not announced, the Saarland woman filed a criminal complaint against him.

As a result, all albums from Vile (1996) onwards were released with two different covers in order to avoid being indexed in Germany or being banned in other countries. The artist's name is Vincent Locke , he created album covers, t-shirt designs and a comic for the song Unleashing the Bloodthirsty , which was included in the limited edition album The Wretched Spawn .

In 1993 they appeared in the film Ace Ventura with Jim Carrey .

After the album The Bleeding , Chris Barnes left Cannibal Corpse and devoted himself entirely to his side project Six Feet Under . His place was taken over by George Fisher , who was previously responsible for vocals for the band Monstrosity . With him, among other things, the album Vile was recorded, which was the first death metal album to place in the Billboard album charts .

In 1997, Rob Barett left the band and was replaced by Pat O'Brien, who had previously played in the band Nevermore . After The Wretched Spawn , Jack Owen surprisingly left the band to join the death metal band Deicide . It was not until December 11, 2005 that the band officially announced the name of his successor: guitarist Rob Barrett, who could be heard on the albums The Bleeding and Vile from 1993 to 1997 .

Kill is the name of the tenth studio album, which was released in Germany on March 31, 2006, two weeks after the international release date. It is the first Cannibal Corpse album with worldwide uniform artwork.

In 2007 Cannibal Corpse played at the Wacken Open Air in Germany. For the first time since its founding, Cannibal Corpse were able to perform all songs freely in Germany, including Vomit the Soul and Hammer Smashed Face .

On January 30th, 2009 the band released their eleventh studio album Evisceration Plague in Germany.

After a three-year break, the band released their new and now twelfth studio album on March 9, 2012, Torture . In Germany there was a defused cover artwork because the original was censored. In addition, the German version of the booklet does not contain any lyrics to protect minors.

The band's thirteenth studio album entitled A Skeletal Domain was released in Germany on September 12, 2014.

After the house of the lead guitarist Pat O'Brien caught fire on December 10, 2018, he broke into a house armed a little later. Witnesses reported that O'Brien had previously been near his home and threatened police officers with a knife. He was arrested for breaking and pointing a gun at police officers.

style

Stylistic features of the band are complex song structures, abrupt tempo and time signature changes and polyphonic, mostly dissonant guitar lines. The vocals mostly consist of the deep growling , but sometimes high-pitched screams are used. The theme of their songs deals with horror , murder and gore . Due to their aggressive lyrics, the band's appearances and albums are partially or completely prohibited in several countries.
