Cover

The German version of the album got a different cover than the editions in other countries. The reason for this is that there have been several problems with the cover design in Germany in the past. In Torture, a different picture was chosen from the start. The German version of the CD shows a bloody skull, the painted original cover shows several corpses on which rats are eating and whose bodies are partially open. The original cover comes from Vincent Locke, who was responsible for the painted covers of the Cannibal Corpse albums in the past.

Charts

The album entered the top 40 of the Billboard charts in the first week and reached number 38 with 9600 copies sold. In Canada the album reached number 29 in the first week, in Germany and Austria Torture entered the charts at number 40 . The album also made it into the top 200 in Great Britain, France, Sweden, Finland and Denmark.

review

Thomas Strater heard the album for the Metal Hammer and judged: “What the string fraction delivers is once again very big sport (crowned by Webster's extravagance in 'The Strangulation Chair'). The drumming is as precise as clockwork even without a trigger (and only the brutal groove in the slow-moving bang 'Scourge Of Iron'). [...] The only downer: An eternal hit like 'Hammer Smashed Face' or 'Evisceration Plague' is missing, but with the consistently high quality of Torture you can live with that. The editorial staff remains in "corpse mode". Great!"
