history

Founding and The Impossibility of Reason (1998-2003)

Chimaira was founded in 1998 by Mark Hunter and Jason Hager. At first , the band was more at home in the direction of Nu Metal , but then changed their style of music and played more metalcore . After the first few months of existence, they appeared as the opening act for bands such as Machine Head , Overkill and Cannibal Corpse .

In 2000 Chimaira released their first EP This Present Darkness on East Coast Empire Records , after which Chimaira received a contract with Roadrunner Records . With Roadrunner Records they also released their first studio album, Pass Out Of Existence , in 2001 . Shortly after the release, Jason Hager left his band. Matt DeVries was hired to replace him. In a new formation they went on tour with bands such as Slayer , Fear Factory and Danzig .

Their second album, The Impossibility of Reason , was released in 2003 and stylistically went much more towards metal. The following tour they denied together with Ill Niño and Spineshank . Seven songs were recorded from this tour and published together with four videos, a documentary and the remastered This-Present-Darkness- EP 2004 on the DVD The Dehumanizing Process .

Line-up change and Chimaira (2003-2006)

The band also went on tour with In Flames , Slipknot , Soilwork and Every Time I Die . Andols left Herrick Chimaira and had to be replaced by Soilwork drummer Rickard Evensandt, who was not a long member of the band. The band only found a permanent drummer in 2004 with Kevin Talley, with whom they toured the USA and then Australia . Afterwards Chimaira went back to the studio to record their third album Chimaira . They then played at concerts with bands like GWAR , DevilDriver or Opeth . In August 2005 the Thrash Metal- heavy album Chimaira was finally released .

In January 2006, Andols Herrick returned to the band after a two-year break in self-discovery after he realized how much he missed the band while recording the 25th anniversary album of Roadrunner Records ( Roadrunner United ).

With the song Army of Me , the band was in the soundtrack to Freddy vs. To hear Jason .

Resurrection and The Infection (2006-present)

Guitarist Rob Arnold 2008

The following album, The Infection , was released on April 24, 2009.

On November 22nd, 2010 bassist Jim LaMarca left the band, Emil Werstler from Dååth replaced LaMarca on bass. Andols Herrick and Chris Spicuzza left the band and were replaced by Austin D'Amond (Bleed the Sky) and Sean Z. (Daath). In addition, Matt "MFA" DeVries announced on August 12, 2011 that he would be leaving the band for personal reasons. In 2011, long-time lead guitarist Rob Arnold also left the band.
