Soilwork is a Swedish melodic death metal - band from Helsingborg . With In Flames , At the Gates and Dark Tranquility , the band is one of the style-defining bands of the genre. Characteristic features of the recent band history are clear vocal parts and the keyboard melodies, which make up a large part of the music in songs like Light the Torch or As We Speak .

The band was founded in late 1995 as Inferior Breed , before changing its name to "Soilwork" in 1997. The first two albums released by Listenable Records were successful, but the breakthrough came in 2001 with A Predator's Portrait , the band 's first album to be released on Nuclear Blast . In 2002 and 2003 the albums Natural Born Chaos and Figure Number Five followed annually . In 2005 the next studio album Stabbing the Drama was released. After the subsequent tour, guitarist and main songwriter Peter Wichers left the band in December 2005 to devote himself to music production .

At the same time as Wicher left, it was announced that drummer Dirk Verbeuren , who previously only played as a session musician with Soilwork, is now joining the band as a full member. In 2007 Daniel Antonsson was introduced as the new guitarist by Pathos and Dimension Zero . He had already played with Soilwork at a few concerts on the last tour. On October 22, 2007, Soilwork released another album called Sworn to a Great Divide . The songs were mainly written by Strid, Antonsson and Frenning were involved in around half of the pieces, Karlsson only worked on the piece Sick Heart River . The album reached number 148 on the US Billboard charts in its first week .

In February 2008, guitarist Ola Frenning left the band because, according to his own account, he could no longer cope with the increasing live presence of the band. David Andersson was introduced as a substitute for the current tour .

In mid-September 2008, Peter Wichers' return to the band was announced. In addition, Sylvain Coudret, Dirk Verbeuren's bandmate in the French extreme metal band Scarve, was presented as the new guitarist. In the course of this, the band separated again from Daniel Antonsson.

On July 2, 2010 her new album was released under the name The Panic Broadcast . It is the first on which Sylvain Coudret can be heard and was produced by Peter Wichers.

On June 26th 2012 the band announced on their Facebook page that guitarist Peter Wichers had left Soilwork due to "creative differences". He was replaced by longtime tour member David Andersson.

The ninth studio album The Living Infinite was released in Europe on March 1, 2013 as a double CD with 20 new tracks. The first single Spectrum of Eternity was released on December 20, 2012 via the Nuclear Blast YouTube channel and offered for free download. The Living Infinite received very good reviews and was e.g. B. named album of the month March 2013 by the German scene magazine Metal Hammer . The album prevailed against well-known competitors such as Long Distance Calling , Saxon or Pothead , who brought new releases onto the market in the same month.

In July 2016, Dirk Verbeuren left the band to join Megadeth as a permanent drummer. In April 2017 the band announced that they had signed Bastian Thusgaard, who had already supported the band live in 2016, as the new drummer.
