Brain Drill ( English for " brain drill ") is an American technical death metal band that also has Grindcore influences in its style .

history

The band was founded in 2005 by Dylan Ruskin as a side project. After leaving his actual band Burn At The Stake , he began to recruit more members for Brain Drill . The second member was the drummer Marco Pitruzella (formerly Vital Remains , Vile et al.), Ruskin was enthusiastic about his talent. After a few months of making music together, singer Steve Rathjen joined, whereupon the recording of the EP "The Parasites", which comprised 6 songs, began in the Castle Ultimate Studios on August 1, 2006 . Drummer Pitruzella recorded all the songs in one go, did not use a metronome and took less than two hours to do this, without the result having to be edited. A day later Ruskin played the guitar tracks; since the band did not yet have a bass player, he had to replace this one too. On May 9, 2006, Rathjen sang the songs for which he only had four days to learn. Shortly after the recordings he left the band because he could not come to terms with the musical style; he was replaced by Andre Cornejo, who had previously sung in the band Dead Syndicate . In the winter of 2006 bassist Jeff Hughell joined, who u. a. also played at Vile . In the summer of 2007 Cornejo was released because they were dissatisfied with his singing. Despite his former motives, Rathjen rejoined the band. Long-time Cannibal Corpse member Alex Webster praised Brain Drill in an interview with the words "Pretty fucking sick" and recommended the band to his record label Metal Blade Records , which Brain Drill then signed.

In August 2007, the first studio album "Apocalyptic Feasting" ("Apokalyptisches Schlemmen") was recorded, which was released on February 5, 2008. There was a tour to promote the album, but Hughhell and Pitruzella were not able to participate in this time. They left the band. After 5 months of unsuccessful search for a replacement, drummer Joe Bondra was hired and a few months later bassist Ivan Munguia (meanwhile also bassist with the band Arkaik ). Brain Drill began touring, sharing the stage with genre greats like Cannibal Corpse , Dying Fetus , Necrophagist , All Shall Perish , Decrepit Birth , and As I Lay Dying . On the Internet platform MySpace , Brain Drill was voted number one on the local grindcore charts and number eleven on the death metal charts.

On August 3rd, 2009, the band announced that they had replaced drummer Joe Bondra with Ron Casey (formerly Vaginal Discharge ). In May 2010 the second studio album "Quantum Catastrophe" was finally released.
