Vital Remains is an American death metal band founded in 1989 . It is characterized by a "brutal", quickly played, but still technically adept style of play. Their musical influences can be traced back to bands like Venom , Celtic Frost , Bathory , Mercyful Fate , Sodom and Destruction . The texts consistently contain anti-Christian content.

The band was formed in Providence in 1989 . After two demos she was able to sign a record deal with Peaceville . The first album Let Us Pray was released in 1992, the successor Into Cold Darkness three years later. During this time black metal was the dominant trend in the metal underground . Despite their anti-Christian to satanic lyrics, the band could not prevail and lost their record deal. They then continued as a trio.

1997 Vital Remains was able to sign with Osmose Productions , where in 1997 their album Forever Underground was released. In 2000 Vital Remains released the last album Dawn of the Apocalypse for the French label. Several line-ups took turns during this time. Various session musicians worked on the drums. The only constants remained Lazaro and Suzuki.

2001 Lazaro and Suzuki took Glen Benton of Deicide on in the group. With him they have released two albums so far for the record company Century Media , with which they signed a contract in 2003.
