Glen Benton (born June 18, 1967 in New York ) is an American bassist and singer of the death metal band Deicide and ex-singer of the death metal band Vital Remains .

Participation in Deicide

Benton started his musical career in 1987 with the band Amon, which shortly thereafter renamed itself Deicide ( Eng .: ' God 's murder '). The image of the band as well as the content of the lyrics go back to Benton, who had been interested in occultism and Satanism from an early age . His interest in these topics was aroused when he was recommended books by his aunt, who is a practicing black witch , at the age of nine or ten , and was later allowed to participate in satanic rituals. He described himself as a Satanist, but it is unclear whether this was just a matter of provocation or not. Benton has the branding of an upside-down cross on his forehead . Benton attracted attention by saying that he wanted to commit suicide when he was 33 years old. However, he has now passed the age of 33.

At Deicide, Benton was always in the foreground and gave the interviews. His bandmates Steve Asheim ( drums ) and the Hoffman brothers ( guitars ) stayed in the background. Since the income of the band in the course of the change to Earache Records was no longer evenly, but proportionally distributed, Brian and Eric Hoffman felt financially disadvantaged and betrayed. They also saw Benton's sometimes very arrogant behavior as a brake on their career. In the past, the Hoffman brothers repeatedly canceled concerts, canceled tours and banned interviews, just to annoy Benton and make him appear dubious, Benton said in an interview.

Participation in other projects

Glen Benton was a singer with Vital Remains from 2003 to 2005 . He was also a guest singer on the albums Harmony Corruption by Napalm Death , Death Shall Rise by Cancer and Eaten Back to Life, and Butchered at Birth by Cannibal Corpse . He also sang the song Annihilation by the Hands of God for the Roadrunner United project . In 2007 he released the album Icons of Evil with Vital Remains .

Radio appearances

Glen Benton still had a small career as a radio talk guest in the 1990s, for example on Bob Larson's talk-back show, in which he often competed against Christian talk guests.
