Steve Asheim (born January 17, 1970 in Florida ) is an American drummer and founding member of the death metal bands Deicide and Order of Ennead . Before that, he was a member of the respective predecessor bands Amon and Council of the Fallen .

biography

Asheim got his first drums at the age of twelve and first played songs by Iron Maiden . As a result, he played with friends in local bands and made a first demo recording in the recording studio of one of his music teachers . Since his bandmates favored Mötley Crüe while he wanted to play the music of Slayer and Metallica , Asheim separated from them. When he was fifteen, he moved to Florida and played songs from Slayer, Exodus , Celtic Frost and Dark Angel in a cover band called Carnage . When he first owned a drum kit with two bass drums at the age of sixteen, he took inspiration from drummers like Dave Lombardo , Gene Hoglan and Lars Ulrich . Asheim founded the band Amon in 1987 together with Glen Benton and the brothers Brian and Eric Hoffman. The band recorded two demo recordings and signed a contract with the record label Roadrunner Records , which went hand in hand with the name change to Deicide. Asheim has since appeared as the drummer on all Deicide releases. He has also been heavily involved in songwriting since the band's early days and has been the producer on the last three Deicide albums .

On 25 January 2007 Steve Asheim was arrested while trying for a Deicide tour through Europe, revenue from the sale of merchandise -Artikeln his band in a Innsbruck deposit bank. In addition to his demeanor, the decisive factor was the fact that a bank robbery had recently taken place in the area and that many of his banknotes were stained with red paint . Asheim explained the latter in a questioning by police officers with a leaked red pen in his pocket, whereupon he was released a few hours later. In the evening the band performed as planned in Innsbruck and then continued their European tour.

In September 2007 he joined the band Council of the Fallen, with whom he recorded three songs for a demo recording. The band then renamed the Order of Ennead and signed a record deal with Earache Records, where Deicide was also under contract at the time. Asheim made contact with the label. The albums Order of Ennead and An Examination of Being were released there in 2008 and 2010, respectively, Asheim also played some piano passages for both of them in addition to drums. On the Deicide album Till Death Do Us Part , released in 2008, he could be heard as a guitarist in addition to his role on drums and piano.

style

"What pushed me towards extreme drum playing was all the lame ass pussy drum playing that was going on in the 80's. All the so-called metal really made me pissed that it was even being called metal. "

- Steve Asheim

On the other hand, he sees himself inspired by what he considers to be the “real” metal bands of the 1980s such as Metallica, Slayer, Dark Angel, Destruction and Sodom .
