David "Dave" Lombardo (born February 16, 1965 in Havana , Cuba ) is an American musician of Cuban descent and known as the former drummer of the thrash metal band Slayer .

Life

In addition to his previous work for Slayer, Lombardo also plays in the band Fantômas alongside Mike Patton ( Faith No More ) and Buzz Osborne ( The Melvins ) . As the drummer of the thrash metal band Grip Inc. , he has released four albums since 1995 together with guitarist Waldemar Sorychta and singer Gus Chambers .

Together with DJ Spooky he released the album Drums of Death in 2005 , on which Chuck D and Dälek have guest appearances. He has also made various guest recordings as the drummer on several albums by the Finnish cellist quartet Apocalyptica .

On May 30, 2013 it was announced by Slayer that Lombardo would be replaced by Paul Bostaph in the future .

At first, Lombardo devoted himself full-time to his project PHILM with guitarist Garry Nestler and bassist Pancho Tomaselli . The musicians had already released their debut album "Harmonic" in May 2012. In September 2014 the second album "Fire From The Evening Sun" was released. After an argument, he left the band in early 2016.

On February 20, 2016, Suicidal Tendencies announced that Lombardo would step in as drummer on their US tour with Megadeth , as well as on the European tour that followed in May of the same year. On May 15, Suicidal Tendencies finally released a video showing Lombardo recording their 2016 album "World Gone Mad" in the studio. This was generally interpreted as a sign that Lombardo was a permanent member of the band from this point on, which was confirmed a short time later when he was listed as a band member on the official website of Suicidal Tendencies. In 2016 Rolling Stone listed him as 47th of the 100 best drummers of all time . Since reuniting with original singer Glenn Danzig in 2016, Dave Lombardo has also been drumming with horror punk pioneers Misfits .

Lombardo is married and has two children.
