Haunting the Chapel is the EP and second release of the thrash metal band Slayer .
Emergence
After the success of Slayer's debut album Show No Mercy , Metal Blade Records' owner Brian Slagel insisted on recording another album with the band. Chemical Warfare and Captor of Sin had already written it when Show No Mercy came out , so Slagel wanted to release an EP. The EP was recorded in Hollywood with producer Bill Metoyer ; since the drum room had no carpet, Slayer's roadie Gene Hoglan had to hold Dave Lombardo's drums together in Chemical Warfare .
Track list
- Chemical Warfare (6:02)
- Captor of Sin (3:29)
- Haunting the Chapel (3:56)
The re-release of the EP also contains Aggressive Perfector from the compilation Metal Massacre III . In addition, the three original titles can also be found on re-releases of the live LP Live Undead on CD .
Music genre
Since the band had evolved since their debut, Haunting the Chapel could stylistically be previewed, although none of the tracks would appear on Hell Awaits . Chemical Warfare is a fast track with a lot of tempo changes, Captor of Sin slower but powerful, and Haunting the Chapel one of the band's “heaviest” pieces at the time with “hammering” drums and vocals reminiscent of Conrad “Cronos” Lant from Venom and church-like vocals .
reception
The side TheLeftHandPath.com took Haunting the Chapel on its list of important thrash metal albums. Ron Nietas wrote in Hoglan's Braindamage - Fanzine that he did not expect the band to be able to beat Show No Mercy , as the album was everything you could want from a power metal album. If you like the album, you have to own the EP.
