Undisputed Attitude is a cover album by the thrash metal band Slayer . It was released on American Recordings on May 28, 1996 and was produced by Slayer, Rick Rubin and Dave Sardy . The album climbed to number 45 in the German album charts.

History of origin

Undisputed Attitude was recorded at Capital Studios in Los Angeles with producer Dave Sardy , while Reign-in-Blood producer Rick Rubin directed executive production. The reason for recording a cover album was mainly guitarist Kerry King . Originally it was supposed to contain heavy metal classics from other classic bands like Judas Priest , UFO , Deep Purple that influenced Slayers. It was also considered to cover material for the psychedelic rock band The Doors , as they are an inspiration to Slayer's singer / bassist Tom Araya .

The songs Ddamm (Drunk Drivers Against Mad Mothers) and Can not Stand You were previously unreleased songs from 1984 to 1985 by guitarist Jeff Hanneman in his side project Pap smear with Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo and Suicidal Tendencies guitarist Rocky George wrote would have. The Stooges cover I Wanna Be Your Dog has been renamed I'm Gonna Be Your God .

controversy

In Germany in particular, the minor threat cover Guilty of Being White caused controversy. The text is about reverse racism against the background of slavery in America and is based on the youth experiences of the minor threat singer Ian MacKaye . Slayer added guilty of being right as the last line , which translates as 'guilty to be right'. Tom Araya denies a racist interpretation and refers to his own migration background. Minor Threat themselves weren't very enthusiastic about the new version.
