Jeff Hanneman
Jeffrey John "Jeff" Hanneman (* 31 January 1964 in Oakland , California ; † 2. May 2013 in Hemet , California) was an American guitarist and co-founder of the thrash metal - band Slayer .
biography
Musical career
Hanneman was one of the main songwriters for Slayer, with which he shaped the genre for decades. Among other things, songs like Angel of Death and Raining Blood sprang from his pen - both parts of the album Reign in Blood . He also wrote the lyrics that triggered numerous and long-lasting controversies about the band due to the ostensibly neutral theming of events during the time of National Socialism . Private life
Hanneman's father of German origin fought for the Americans in Normandy, his uncle in the Vietnam War .
Jeff Hanneman was married to Kathy without children. He had a sister and two brothers.
End of musical career and death
In January 2011, Hanneman fell ill with necrotizing fasciitis , which was probably caused by a spider bite, and had to undergo a number of surgical procedures. When Slayer performed live during this time, he was first replaced by Gary Holt , a member of the thrash metal band Exodus , and occasionally by Pat O'Brien of the band Cannibal Corpse . On May 2, 2013, Hanneman died of alcohol-related cirrhosis of the liver , after this health problem had remained undetected until immediately before his death.
The Westboro Baptist Church provoked by protest calls and a march at Hanneman's funeral. The members of the band Panzerfaust attracted attention by urinating and posting a photo on the Internet in response to this in 2014 just outside Westboro Baptist Church.

In 2014, a roundabout in the southern Polish city of Jaworzno was named after Hanneman. The couple Krzysztof and Joanna Czuszek had won an annual auction in which the city auctioned off the right to name the roundabout in favor of a charitable cause. There is also a bar dedicated to him in Nuremberg , which is spelled differently (Hannemann Bar).
