Decade of Aggression is the second live album by the Californian thrash metal band Slayer . It is the last release with Dave Lombardo on drums up to the 2004 live DVD Still Reigning .

background

The double album was recorded during the "Clash of the Titans" tour in Lakeland , the Wembley Arena in London, and in San Bernardino . All tracks on the first CD were recorded on July 13, 1991 at the Lakeland Colloseum. For the pieces on the second CD, recordings from the two other concerts were put together. Songs 1, 2 and 7 are from the concert at Wembley Arena on October 14, 1990, songs 3–6 and 8–10 are from the concert in the Orange Pavilion, San Bernardino, on March 8, 1991. By editing the song recordings the change of the recording location is not clearly visible.

Compared to the best-of - compilations of other artists this time it is a pure live album. The band only used original recordings and no overdubs . What is unusual about the mix is that one guitarist was put on the left and one on the right stereo channel. The respective guitar playing can be clearly assigned. The album entered the Billboard 200 on November 9, 1991 , was in the charts for a total of ten weeks and reached number 55 there.

review

Billboard writes in its review:

“It's a double live album that approaches the league of Ted Nugent's Double Live Gonzo! , the Who's Live at Leeds , and the Allman Brothers' At Fillmore East when it comes to representing a band perfectly. "

“When it comes to representing a band perfectly, this double live album belongs in the league of Double Live Gonzo! by Ted Nugent, Live at Leeds by The Who and At Fillmore East by the Allman Brothers. "

Bloodchamber.de considers the album to be a milestone in metal history. Rock Hard's Thomas Kupfer wrote that the album "contains all the songs that made the Californians' rise to the premier league of Thrash bands possible". The Metal Observer also judged, noting that the album was a good opportunity to familiarize yourself with the band's older material.
