Voodoocult ( spelling : VoodooCult ) was the international metal / thrash metal project of the German independent musician Phillip Boa , which he founded in 1994 parallel to his band Phillip Boa and the Voodooclub . Voodoocult released two albums and broke up after the release of the second album and the subsequent tour in 1996.

history

Voodoocult is the brainchild of Phillip Boa, then a successful independent musician with his band Phillip Boa and the Voodooclub and his bassist Dave "Taif" Ball, who previously played with Killing Joke . The two recorded their first demos with Waldemar Sorychta (ex- Despair ) , which they sent to Dave Lombardo (who had recently been thrown from his old band Slayer ), and he was immediately enthusiastic. Sorychta was guitarist of the band, also has Mille Petrozza of Kreator also recruited for the project. In addition, Death guitarist and singer Chuck Schuldiner and Gabby Albularach ( Cro-Mags ) joined the group.

In 1994 the first voodoo cult album Jesus Killing Machine was released at the same time as the voodoo club album god . For Lombardo it was the first sign of life after the Slayer split. On the following double tour, Phillip Boa presented the voodoo club on the first evening and the voodoo cult album on the second evening in each city. Tiamat played as the opening act . In addition, the Voodoocult album contains a metal version of the 1989 voodoo club song Albert Is a Headbanger , and the single Metallized Kids a version of My Game Is Dracula from the voodoo club album god . A second tour followed, supporting Obituary , Sepultura and Rollins Band .

The band Grip Inc. , in which Sorychta and Lombardo find their new musical home, was formed parallel to Voodoocult . Both got out of the project, which found two new comrades in Markus Freiwald (ex- Despair , drums) and studio guest Jim Martin ( Faith No More ). In 1995 Voodoocult released the second and to date last album Voodoocult . While Jesus Killing Machine was still a pure Thrash Metal album, the second album is a mixture of metal and indie pop by Phillip Boa and the Voodooclub. On April 16, 1995 the band performed at 1Live Rocknacht in the Philipshalle in Düsseldorf. The performance was broadcast in the Rockpalast .

In 1996 Voodoocult broke up after the end of a tour with Warrior Soul . Another guest was represented on this tour with Tommy Vetterli (ex- Coroner ). The 1996 album Fine Art on Silver - Singles Collection by Phillip Boa & The Voodooclub contains the last voodoo cult release, the cover version of the voodoo club classic Kill Your Ideals .
