Despair is a thrash metal band from Dortmund .
history
Despair formed in 1986 from the remnants of various local bands. After the band played a few concerts with bands like Death Angel or DRI , they decided to release their first album through their own record company and to reject requests from various companies. Singer Robert Kampf then founded Century Media , which is one of the leading German metal labels today. In 1988 the debut album History of Hate was released . The mix of technical Thrash Metal and the hardcore punk- influenced vocals of Robert Kampf brought the band many fans. After Century Media grew and signed more bands, Robert Kampf decided to leave. He was replaced by Andreas Henschel.
The second album Decay of Humanity was released in 1990. The music seemed more mature than on the debut. A planned European tour with Death did not take place. As a replacement, Despair toured with Annihilator and Xentrix and played at the Metalmania festival in Poland a year later . In 1992 the third and final album Beyond All Reason was released. To promote the album, the band toured Europe with Overkill . After the musicians could not agree on the future musical direction, Despair broke up in 1993.
Waldemar Sorychta then founded the band Grip Inc. and made a name for himself as a music producer . Markus Freiwald became the drummer for Sodom in December 2010 . Marek Grzeszek committed in 2013 on May 15 suicide . In September 2017 Waldemar Sorychta reactivated the band. The new singer was Marc Grewe, who played with Morgoth and had already contributed some backing vocals on the Despair album Decay of Humanity . Sorychta's nephew Marius Ickert took over the bass.
