Markus "Makka" Freiwald (* 19th March 1971 in Dortmund ) is a German Metal - drummer .

Career

Freiwald started playing drums at the age of 15. His first band was Despair , where he played together with the later founder of the Century Media label Robert Kampf and the later producer Waldemar Sorychta . After three studio albums, the band broke up in 1993. A year later Freiwald joined the band Voodoocult after their drummer Dave Lombardo could not go on tour. In 1995 Freiwald played on the last, self-titled voodoo cult album before the band broke up. In 1997 Freiwald played on the first and only album by the Bochum band Flaming Anger . Freiwald then played on three albums by the Dortmund hip-hop musician Lee Buddah . In addition, Markus Freiwald was active as a live and studio drummer in various bands, including Kreator , Lacuna Coil , Rotting Christ and Rumble Militia .

In the early 2000s he retired from the music business and sold his drums. In 2010 Markus Freiwald joined the band Sodom and succeeded Konrad "Bobby" Schottkowski . Freiwald released three studio albums with Sodom. In 2017 Sodom were recognized as the best German band at the Metal Hammer Awards . In January 2018, Sodom singer Tom Angelripper split from Freiwald and guitarist Bernd Kost . According to their own information, Kost and Freiwald were informed of their sacking via a WhatsApp message. Kost and Freiwald then founded the band Bonded .

Markus Freiwald is married. After retiring from the music business, he retrained to become a software developer . He now works in logistics at Century Media and looks after retail.
