Frank Blackfire (born February 24, 1966 in Essen ; actually Frank Gosdzik ) is a German guitarist who became internationally known as a member of the influential Thrash Metal bands Sodom and Kreator .

Career

Inspired by attending an AC / DC concert, Gosdzik began playing guitar at the age of eleven. After first attempts with his self-founded band Midia , he joined the Gelsenkirchen- based Sodom in 1987 , with whom they had previously shared the rehearsal room.

Based on the pseudonyms of his new bandmates at Sodom, Angelripper and Witchhunter , Gosdzik called himself Blackfire from now on . In the years that followed, he played a key role in the musical development and direction of Sodom through his playing skills and, among other things, played the chart album Agent Orange with these in addition to an EP and the album Persecution Mania (1987) in 1989 .

Personal differences led in July 1989 to the fact that Blackfire Sodom and left in Essen at Kreator , another pioneer of the German thrash scene, got in. Three studio albums followed with Blackfire's participation, with both Coma of Souls and Cause for Conflict , which was released in 1995 and once again hit the German sales charts, with commercial success. In 1994 Blackfire worked with the Brazilian women's band Volkana on their album Mindtrips .

In 1997 Blackfire decided to turn his back on Kreator and to pursue various more experimental approaches in musical terms. He worked with jazz influences, dealt with percussion and ran a cover band specializing in classic rock . Blackfire appeared as a guest musician on the 1998 debut album Scepter of Black Knowledge by the German black metal band Black Messiah .

Towards the end of 2000 Blackfire moved to São Paulo in Brazil , where he earned his living as a guitar teacher and in the fall of 2001 he founded his own band again with Mystic , in which he is also active as a singer and which musically resembles his Thrash roots from the 1980s Years. After two demos , Blackfire returned to the Ruhr area in mid-2006 and continues his band there under the new name Blackfire . At the Wacken Open Air 2009 he appeared as a guest guitarist with the thrash metal band Whiplash . In 2016 Blackfire replaced Michael Hoffman as guitarist with Assassin . In January 2018, Tom Angelripper announced the return of Frank Blackfire to Sodom.

Blackfire is married and has one daughter.
