Whiplash is a thrash metal band from Passaic , New Jersey, founded in 1984 .
history
The band was originally formed by the "three Tonys": Tony Portaro (vocals, guitar), Tony Scaglione (drums) and Tony Bono (bass). Three demos were released in 1984 and 1985. In 1985, their debut album entitled Power And Pain was also released through Roadrunner Records.
Joe Cangelosi replaced Tony Scaglione in 1986 when he left the band to replace Dave Lombardo for a tour with Slayer .
Joe Cangelosi recorded the album Ticket to Mayhem with the two Tonys a year later (1987) . In 1989 Glenn Hansen joined as a new singer. The four of them recorded the album Insult to Injury (1989).
After this album, Whiplash surprisingly broke up, only to reunite in 1996. With renewed euphoria, they produced the studio albums Cult of One (1996) and Sit Stand Kneel Prey (1997).
In 1998 the former "three Tonys" united for one last album, which was to be released that same year and was to be called Thrashback . However, in the same year they broke up for the second time.
In 2002 bassist Tony Bono died of a heart attack. He was 38 years old.
In 2008 the band was re-founded for the second time. About a year later, on August 5th, 2009, their seventh studio album entitled "Unborn Again" was released on the Pulverized Records label . The cover artwork is by Ed Repka . Harris Johns was the responsible producer for the album.
