Metal Hammer Awards
The Metal Hammer Award is a German music prize and has been presented annually by the German metal magazine Metal Hammer since 2009. The award is not to be confused with the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards from the British Metal Hammer.
General
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the magazine, the Metal Hammer Awards were presented for the first time in 2009. A jury made up of musicians, the editorial staff and the readers of the magazine will decide on the award of the prize . In addition to prizes in the categories of best album , best debut album , best German band, best international band, prizes are awarded in the categories Legende , God of Riff (best guitarist), Metal Anthem (best song), Up and Coming (best newcomer) and Maximum Metal (best personality) awarded. At the first award ceremony in 2009, prizes were also awarded for the best internet presence and the closest to the fans.
Categories
You can vote in ten categories every year (twelve categories in 2009). These are defined / defined as follows:
Best album : The basis for the decisions should be the reviews of music albums published by Metal Hammer, of which over 100 are released every month. In 2009 it was possible to vote for all albums that were released from January 2008 to summer 2009. Since then, the valid publication period begins in the summer of the previous year for an award ceremony and ends about a year later in the summer immediately before an award ceremony.
Best German band : Votes should be for German bands "who have a lasting influence on the international scene and who celebrate great successes abroad".
Best international band : You should vote for the best non-German band.
Legend : This category is looking for a person who had a lasting impact on the metal scene , so that he or she will still be seen as an important person for this music in the future.
Riff-Gott : The best guitarist of an award period is to be chosen in this category.
Best Live Band : This category in particular is about the current impression of the bands. Primarily only the performances in the respective award period are decisive.
Metal-Hymne 20xx : Voting should be for the best or catchiest metal song of each award period.
Newcomer 20xx : The best newcomer band in an award period is to be determined. Both the subjective impression of the live qualities and the music itself should be included.
Best debut : In this category, only the albums by newcomer bands count.
Maximum Metal-Band : It is to be decided which band the Metal-Hammer-Motto Maximum Metal! "lives most convincingly on and off the stage."
Best online presence : In this category, which was only activated in 2009, we had to vote for the most appealing and best web presence of a band.
Greatest fan proximity : Also only awarded in 2009 was the band that was closest to the fan and thus left a lasting impression on the public.
