Holy Moses is a German thrash metal band founded in Aachen in 1980 and is considered one of the pioneers of this genre in Germany.
Career
On October 17th, 1980 Ramon Brüssler (bass), Jochen Fünders (vocals and guitar) and Peter Vonderstein (drums) decided to found the band Holy Moses . Just four days later they had their first appearance in Stolberg .
After a concert in Eindhoven in October 1981, drummer Peter Vonderstein, who was replaced by Paul Linzenich, and the guitarist and singer Jochen Fünders, for whom Andy Classen (guitarist) and Iggy (vocals) joined the cast, separated. Iggy couldn't stay in the band until the end of the year, however. When looking for a new singer, the band members came across Andy Classen's girlfriend and later wife , Sabina Classen .
To be able to finish his studies, Paul Linzenich left Holy Moses in 1984 and was replaced on drums by Jörg Heins. As a result, Sabina resigned. Since the successor could not convince, the changes were reversed. Sabina remained a singer and Herbert Dreger took over the drums.
In 1986 there was a contract with the record company Aaargghh Records and the release of the debut album Queen of Siam . The only remaining founding member Ramon Brüssler moved to Thailand , transferred the management to Sabina and Andre Chapalier the bass. Since Herbert didn't want to continue in the band either, the position of drummer was vacant again. The then 19-year-old Uli Kusch got the chance and filled it. In the next few years there were repeated changes in the positions of drummer and guitarist.
In 1987, after Finished With The Dogs , Holy Moses was signed by WEA ( AC / DC , Van Halen ). In the television series Ein Fall für Zwei , the band can be seen in the episode Acknowledgment from 1989. In the next few years Holy Moses released several records, such as B. The New Machine of Liechtenstein , World Chaos and Reborn Dogs . After this record, however, it came to a break, Sabina started a new project with Temple of the Absurd and divorced Andy Classen, who wanted to devote himself to his own projects after No Matter What's the Cause .
In 2000 there was a reunion of Holy Moses on the initiative of Andy Classen, Jochen Fünders and Sabina Classen, a year later the EP Master of Disaster was released , followed in 2002 by the album Disorder of the Order . With Strength, Power, Will, Passion 2005 came the band's last release so far.
In the middle of 2006 Oliver Jaath (Ex-Reckless Tide, KillFrame) started as bassist and since 2007 Atomic Steif (Ex- Violent Force , Ex- Living Death , Ex- Sodom , Stahlträger) has been playing the drums again. At the beginning of 2008 Oliver switched from bass to guitar and Thomas Neitsch took over bass.
In 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2008 Holy Moses performed at Wacken Open Air .
In 2008 the band released the quasi-successor album to New Machine of Liechtenstein called Agony of Death , which again offered somewhat more complex song structures than the last works. After the success of Agony of Death , a tour with Benediction and a few appearances (including at the Rock Area Festival and as the opening act for Doro at the Beewood Festival in Landau), Holy Moses went into the studio in spring 2011 to tackle several projects take: A best-of CD with new recordings of old classics, the first DVD in the band's history and new songs to be released in winter 2011 for the thirtieth stage anniversary. In line with this, there will be an extended tour through Europe and Asia in winter 2011 / spring 2012.
In 2011 Atomic Steif left the band. Gerd Lücking (Lightmare, ex-Courageous, ex-Giftdwarf, ex-Rebellion) took over the position on drums for him
In 2012 the band split from guitarist Michael Hankel for personal reasons.
