Living Death was a German thrash metal band. She is considered to be one of the first representatives of this subgenre in Europe.
Band history
Living Death was founded in 1980 by the brothers Reiner and Dieter Kelch in Velbert . With the singer Thorsten "Toto" Bergmann, the second guitarist Frank Fricke and the drummer Frank Schubring the first line-up was complete. In 1982 the band released their first self-titled demo . As one of the first thrash metal bands in Europe, the debut album Vengeance from Hell was released in 1983 , which has been compared with American bands such as Slayer or Metallica .
The following period was marked by several line-up changes. The band had a total of five different drummers, including the Atomic Steif known from Sodom , Violent Force , Assassin and Holy Moses . Reiner Kelch and Frank Fricke were also co-initiators of the band Mekong Delta . In 1987, the band released their best album, according to music critics, entitled Protected from Reality , which also includes the band's best-known piece, Eisbein mit Sauerkraut . When the band split in 1989, Toto Bergmann, Frank Fricke and Atomic Steif founded the band Sacred Chao, together with Lemmie from Violent Force as bassist, but they only recorded one EP .
The Kelch brothers tried a comeback in 1991 with a new drummer and a new singer and released Killing in Action . However, there was no success and the band finally broke up.
Living Death belongs to u. a. together with Sodom and Destruction, to the German Thrash Metal bands, which the Colombian band Guerra Total names as essential influences.
