JBO is a German fun metal band founded in 1989 .

JBO was founded, the E-Werk in Erlangen
Veit Kutzer, Ralph Bach and Hannes Holzmann at the Rockharz Open Air 2016

history

Early years

The band JBO was originally formed by the two front men Hannes “G. Laber ”Holzmann and Veit Kutzer alias“ Vito C. ”founded as a pure fun project under the name“ James Blast Orchester ”. It was planned to perform at the Newcomer Festival in Erlangen's E-Werk, where the two were regular guests. First songs were recorded until the band's first official appearance on October 29, 1989 at the E-Werk. The first songs included No Sleep 'til Bruck ( Bruck here denotes a district of Erlangen), a cover of No Sleep' til Brooklyn by the Beastie Boys , the songs Instrumental Medley I & II (later renamed melodies for melons ) and the first versions of Kuschelmetal , which later became the first song on the 1995 debut album Explizite Lyrik .

No Sleep 'til Bruck was played by the local radio station "Downtown" and reached number one in the radio and listener charts, although the band had not yet performed live. As a result of this placement, a first cassette was created in a very small edition of 50 pieces.

Since the band lacked musicians for the first appearance at the Erlangen E-Werk, Holmer "a Bier" Graap was hired as drummer and Thomas "Schmitti" Schmitt as bassist. Both came from Holzmann's former band Fair Warning. A key element of the band was the pink Graap drum kit. It was decided to wear pink stage outfits, and so this color has become the central element and distinguishing feature of JBO to this day

In 1994 the song A Good Day to Die was on local radio stations. Gradually, the listener's demand for a sound carrier of this song grew. But as there wasn't one yet, the band decided to buy the EP A good CD for sale in the SAE Studio (Holzmann and Uli Friedel from Justice trained there as sound engineers) . record. The last song hymn on this CD was recorded in the studio by Jay Meinl, who had played in the band Carswell together with Vito C. and Wolfram Kellner (later with Fiddler's Green and from 2000 onwards with JBO as a drummer).

Joe Raimond, one of the two owners of the Musical Tragedies label, then signed JBO. In addition to the well-known CD, there was later a limited edition as a shape CD in the form of a Kitzmann beer crate under the title A good CD to drink! with green cover artwork. At the end of 1994 the EP BLASTphemie was released as a Christmas present for the fans. In addition to the original version, there was also a second CD on which, in addition to hash (cover by ZZ Tops Tush ) and Schlimme Nacht, schlimmige Nacht , greetings to the fans are included.

The patrician-Brau AG in Fuerth threatened to sue because of a phrase in the "Kitzmann Rock'n'Roll", "No beer is and'res us righteous, and of patrician is us poor's also Tucher we do not find better tastes like purest wastewater. ”In the said song, the two brand names were then obscured by playing them backwards; the names are clearly identifiable when the song is played backwards. In other songs, “patrician” was replaced by “Parisian beer”, which developed into a running gag.

Explicit lyric and sound! (1996 to 1998)

The songs from the first years of the band's history, which were previously only played live, were now on the debut album Explizite Lyrik . In the first three months the album sold over 10,000 times, which was a real sales success for the band. In 1998, JBO was awarded the gold record for 250,000 copies of Explicit Poetry sold . At the beginning of March 1996 the strictly limited shape CD No Business Like Shoebusiness was released in the form of Dr. Martens logos released. This CD was to mark the beginning of a series of similar releases by other bands. The label “Dr. Martens Records “went bankrupt after a short time and JBO never got money for this release.

On May 13, 1996, JBO performed live on Bayerischer Rundfunk in Alabama, Munich. The debut album Explizite Lyrik entered the German album charts at number 57 in July 1996 and lasted for 36 weeks. The “Searock Festival” on July 27th at Dechsendorfer Weiher was recorded for the EP The Jaws in Dechsendorfer Weiher , which is strictly limited to 2,657.3 copies . This EP was brought to local record stores by the band personally and served as a small thank you to the fans. On August 28, 1996 the EP Die Megra Hit Twingle was released , for which two videos ( Mei Alde is in Playboy and Schlaf, Kindlein, Schlaf ) were produced.

In the same year James Last's record company sued because of acute danger of confusion in the band name and asked JBO to stop selling CDs with the label "James Blast Orchestra". So the name was quickly changed to its current, common form James! Chester . In 1997, JBO switched to the record label Lawine / BMG. On May 5, 1997, the second album was released under the title Laut! with a first edition of 100,000 pieces. However, there were legal actions from the Rammstein record company , as the guitar riffs for A Little Peace ( cover song of the same name by Nicole ) from the Rammstein piece Want to see the bed in flames were taken over. As a result, the song and the booklet were adapted for later pressings - but the copies of the first edition that were already on the market could still be sold.

A week after the first edition was released, loud! 13th place in the German album charts and lasted 20 weeks. The explicit lyrics could take its way into the German album charts again. The first two albums together sold over 350,000 times by the end of 1997 ( Explicit Lyrik 200,000 and loud! 150,000 times). It was not until 2009 that the band was awarded the golden record for 250,000 records sold the loud! excellent. On May 4th, 1998 the compilation was released ... and fun with it , which was an idea of the record company. This sound carrier contains the band's favorite party songs, which they have put together themselves.

Masters of Music, Sex Sex Sex, Pink Army Faction (1998 to 2002)

The third studio album Masters of Music was recorded on Lake Como in Italy in 1998 . The album was released on September 14, 1998 and entered the Top 100, and later even entered the Top 10 of the German album charts for two weeks. Meister der Musik reached number 6 on the album charts. On August 7, 1999, the 10th anniversary of the band was celebrated in Weingarts . The only release in 1999 was the JBO home video as VHS , which, in addition to various concert recordings (including the TV appearance on May 13 in Alabama, Munich) also contained self-made skits. This long out of print video was re-released on DVD in 2009 . On August 28th JBO had their first international concert in Luxembourg .

From February to March 2000 JBO went to Tenerife to work on their fourth studio album. During the stay the bassist Schmitti announced his departure from the band, a little later drummer Holmer “a Bier” Graap made this decision. Wolfram Kellner, a long-time friend of Vito C., left the band Fiddler's Green and was hired as the new drummer for JBO. A few months later, Ralph Bach joined the band as a bass player. The album Sex Sex Sex, recorded in Tenerife, followed in September and reached number 13 in the German album charts.

Together they started the largest JBO tour to date, during which some concerts (including in the Hamburg docks ) were recorded for a possible live album. On October 1, 2001, the band's first live album, Live Sex, followed . From February to March 2002 they worked together on a fifth studio album, which was recorded on the Croatian island of Krk . Rosa Army Fraktion was released on February 9, 2002 and reached number 13 on the German album charts.

United States of Blöedsinn and Head Bang Boing (2003 to 2007)

From August 22nd to September 6th, 2003, Hans Platz was a temporary worker for Vito C. at JBO and took over the guitar because Vito broke his finger. In December 2003, JBO worked this time at home on their sixth album, which was released on August 2, 2004 under the name United States of Blöedsinn . The previously published single Gänseblümchen was checked by the Federal Testing Office for Media Harmful to Young People because of some text passages and a possible indexing was excluded. The album reached number 6 in the charts. On July 31, 2004, the 15th anniversary of the band was celebrated under the motto “30 Halbe” at Dechsendorfer Weiher, at which the former drummer Holmer “a Bier” Graap appeared and played.

In 2005 they were one of the numerous supporting bands at the EuroSpeedway in Lausitz for the farewell concert of the Böhsen Onkelz in front of well over 100,000 spectators. In July, the compilation Eine gute BLASTphemie zumkauf was released, a compilation of JBO's first EPs with some rare tracks, and on October 21, the DVD TV Blöedsinn followed . Shortly thereafter, the compilation For Beginners was released , which was a best-of from 1995 to 2005 and was aimed primarily at newer fans.

The band also founded their current label Megapress in 2005. The first release was the EP Rock Muzik on October 13, 2006 , which included, among other things, a cover song from Udo Juergens ' song Greek wine ( Franconian beer ). The CD made it to number 56 in the German charts. With the release of the seventh studio album Head Bang Boing on the in-house label Megapress on September 28, 2007, JBO achieved the worst chart position of their albums to date. The work only made it to number 39 on the German album charts.

I Don't Like Metal and Killer Album (2008 to 2013)

In July 2009 JBO received a gold record for the second time for more than 250,000 albums sold of their second work loud! presented. In the same year the pre-single Angie - quit living on dreams , which is a cover for Falco's Jeanny , was released. Before the CD came onto the market, the associated video should be distributed as widely as possible on the Internet , but without making the band recognizable (this then ran under the band name "Hells Angies" on the Internet). The eighth studio album I don't like Metal - I love it via Megapress followed on August 14, 2009 . There was also a special edition with bonus disc for this album, which u. a. the joint appearance with Sepultura at the Earthshaker Fest on July 19, 2007.

The album made it to number 6 in the German album charts. On October 10th, 2009 JBO celebrated their 20th anniversary with the motto “2000 years JBO”. The appearance, u. a. with guest singers such as Vicki Vomit , was recorded and filmed for the live album 2000 Years JBO , which was released on May 28, 2010. The film material was included as a bonus disc in the special edition. Further publications in 2009 were the out of print works as re-release Live-Sex , Sex Sex Sex , Rosa Army Fraktion and the JBO home video on DVD. In June 2010 the “Forum Culture of the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region” named the band JBO “Artist of the Month June 2010”.

Her ninth studio album, Killeralbum , was released on August 19, 2011 . The album entered the German album charts at number 3 in the first week of sales, making it the band's best-placed album to date. The mascot "Ingrid" on the cover is reminiscent of the cover of the Iron Maiden album Killers with its mascot "Eddie". In October 2011, the CD Happy Metal Thunder , which had been planned for a long time for publication , was released, which is JBO's first international album and contains many of the band's well-known songs in English.

In December 2011, written by Carsten Dobschat and Andrea Jaeckel-Dobschat official band biography published biography of the nonsense that the publisher Nicole Schmenk was published.

25th anniversary, only the best grow old and 11 (since 2014)

In 2014 JBO played at the 25th Wacken Open Air and at the 17th Summer Breeze Open Air to celebrate their 25th anniversary as a band. On August 15 of the same year, the 10th studio album Nur die beste sein werden , which was not released on the band's own label Megapress , but on AFM Records . A first song from this album called Schule aus (a cover version of Alice Cooper's School’s Out ) was released on the web at the end of June. The second digital single 4 Finger für ein Halleluja was also released on July 18, 2014 , for which a music video was shot in the Huguenot Church in Erlangen .

In 2015, for the 20th anniversary of the release of the album Explizite Lyrik , a major tour of Germany followed in two stages, during which the album was played live in full length (including all skits ). Further appearances took place at various festivals, including, for the first time, the Full Metal Cruise in the Mediterranean, the Out and Loud in Geiselwind and the Metal Hammer Paradise in the Weißenhäuser Strand holiday park . On September 9th , a video clip was released for the song A Good Day to Die , which was first released in 1994.

The eleventh studio album 11 was announced for 2016 and released on July 8th. In advance, the song Wacken is only published once a year with a lyric video on YouTube. The pictures in the clip were sent in by fans. Video clips were also shot for the songs I would like more and the Panzer Dance .

The twelfth studio album entitled Deutsche Vita was released on March 30, 2018.

The thirteenth studio album entitled Who lets the pig out ?! was released on June 28, 2019. On the weekend of the album's release, the band celebrated their 30th anniversary in the form of a two-day open air festival called "Ein Fest" (based on a song by the band, which was originally "Go West" by the Pet Shop Boys is) in Weingarts. JBO played with a different program on both days, and bands like Hämatom , Feuerschwanz , Kissin 'Dynamite and others performed.

style

In the beginning, cover versions of well-known mood songs from rock and pop music were played, with the lyrics being modified in an amusing way and the original songs interpreted in the style of metal . Around 2000 the band started to focus mainly on their own compositions, but has still devoted itself to spreading nonsense (this is the spelling used by the band). The stronger focus on original compositions is also due to the fact that many planned cover versions were not approved by the original authors. Some texts of such planned covers were published on the fan page, others are sometimes played at live concerts.

Incorrectly attributed songs and covers

JBO are often credited with performing covers of songs that were not written by them. The reason for this is the spread of incorrectly titled MP3 files via Internet file sharing networks. An example of this is the title Moscow , which originally comes from the group Dschinghis Khan and was covered by the band Donald Dark, who are friends with JBO . Other cases are e.g. B. Aldi nice things , unemployed and having fun , where to go with grandma's corpse (all three by Vicki Vomit ) or canned beer makes you smart (from Illegal 2001 ). JBO later played the song unemployed and fun together with Vicki Vomit at the festival to mark their 20th anniversary.

An example of an original composition incorrectly attributed to JBO in many internet sources is The Anti Teletubbie Song by Marco Raap / For Heavens Sake.

The official fan page maintains a list of titles whose originals are not from JBO and have not been covered by them.
