history
1992–1994: The beginnings
In 1992, Jimmy Pop Ali , Daddy Long Legs, Bubba K Love and Foof formed the band as a Depeche Mode cover band. Before that, Jimmy Pop and Daddy Long Legs played together in their hip-hop project Bang Chamber 8 . They played their first concerts in a back room in the house of Jared Hasselhoff, who at that time was still playing with Vaginal Bloodphart . Due to some quarrels within the band, Bubba K Love and Foof left the band in 1993. With MSG they found a replacement for Foof very quickly, but they changed their drummer very often because, according to the band, nobody was right for them. With Skip O'Pot2Mus as their new drummer, they recorded their first three-track demo, Just Another Demo . From now on they played every month at the New York club CBGB .
During the recordings for their second demo The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to Hitler's Handicapped Helpers in April 1994, the guitarist Lüpüs Thünder , who had already worked as a DJ between Foof and MSG, joined the band. After signing a recording deal with Cheese Factory Records , they released their first EP, Dingleberry Haze , in November 1994 , which sold about 120 copies and is now considered a collectors item.
1995: Use Your Fingers
In March 1995, due to some financial difficulties, Daddy Long Legs and MSG left the band and joined the American hip-hop band Wolfpac . In order to fill the empty spaces, Bloodhound Gang hired Tard-E-Tard to replace MSG and Jimmy's old friend Evil Jared Hasselhoff as bassist after Mister Capitan Stinky Boots, whom they threw out of the band after two days . In July 1995 they released their debut album Use Your Fingers , a mixture of punk rock and hip hop , which was hardly noticed and largely flopped. Since Skip O'Pot2Mus and Tard-E-Tard left the band due to some disputes, but they were supposed to tour France according to the contract, the band had to look for a replacement, whom they also had with DJ Q-Ball and Spanky G. found.
1996-1997: One Fierce Beer Coaster
After their first little tour of France, the Bloodhound Gang went into the studio in March 1996 to record their second album, One Fierce Beer Coaster . After their record company (now renamed from Cheese Factory Records to Republic Records ) refused to release the album, they signed with Geffen Records , who released their album in December 1996. The album was a success, and One Fierce Beer Coaster stayed in the album charts for quite a long time. When a European tour followed after a US / Canada tour, the 1997 single Fire Water Burn aroused the interest of music television and alternative radio stations. Fire Water Burn is still one of the most popular songs of the Bloodhound Gang and paved the way for their further career.
When the band contributed a song to the soundtrack of the comedy Half Baked , it entered the charts across Europe. This song, a radical reworking of the old hit Along Comes Mary by the flower power group The Association , finally made the band known to a wider audience in Europe.
1998-2000: Hooray for Boobies
Their next record, Hooray for Boobies , which was released in October 1999 (in the USA, however, not until the end of February 2000), largely met expectations and entered the top chart positions. The Bloodhound Gang had their greatest commercial success with the single The Bad Touch . The song Inevitable Return of the Great White Dope from the album Hooray for Boobies was used on the soundtrack of the horror parody Scary Movie . After the release of their next release The Ballad of Chasey Lain and an 18-month tour, the Bloodhound Gang retired for the next few years.
2003: DVD
In 2003 the Bloodhound Gang released their first DVD called One Fierce Beer Run , which contains behind-the-scenes material, comments from the band members and the uncensored version of their music videos.
2005-2006: Hefty Fine
In early 2005, the Bloodhound Gang moved back into the studio to record their album Hefty Fine , which was released in September 2005. The album sold quite well and achieved gold status, but could not match the success of its predecessor. At the end of 2005 the song Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo was released as a single. If you look at the first letters of each word ( F oxtrot U niform C harlie K ilo) you get the word “FUCK”. The coding was done using the NATO alphabet .
In 2006 the second release from the album Hefty Fine , Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss , was released, which also served as an advertising medium for the Blaupunkt company .
At the Hefty Fine Tour 2006, however , drummer “Willie the New Guy” was no longer there. He was released from the band in March 2006 by mutual agreement; no official reason was given for this. On this tour, Adam Perry (The Yin) from Band A played the drums, who were accepted as an official band member a short time later.
On July 17, 2007, the single Screwing You on the Beach at Night was released. In 2010 a hardcore music video was released in which the band played the same song while ex porn actors Leonie Saint and Till Kraemer had sex with each other.
Evil Jared announced in his blog in October 2008 that Lüpüs Thünder has left the band.
2015: hard-off and dissolution
Between 2014 and 2015 the singles American Bitches, Chew Toy, Dimes, Clean Up in Aisle Sexy and Uncool as Me (feat. Joey Fatone ) were released in advance , until the fifth studio album entitled Hard-Off was released on December 18, 2015 .
In several interviews, Evil Jared Hasselhoff confirmed that this was the band's last album and that they broke up in late 2015.
Trivia
Appearances
The Bloodhound Gang attracts a lot of attention with their unconventional appearances. Part of the show was that Jimmy Pop vomited on stage after sticking a banana in his throat or after bassist Evil Jared Hasselhoff urinated on his head. Hasselhoff was imprisoned in Russia for undressing on stage. Hasselhoff also ate worms, live insects and other animals on stage or during an interview with Niels Ruf , as you can see in the clip The Bad Touch . In September 2005 the band appeared on the show TV total , with Evil Jared Hasselhoff undressing and presenting his testicles, which he had previously painted with the title of the show. At the Oktoberfest 2005 a similar action led Hasselhoff to be kicked out of a festival tent. On July 31, 2013, Jared Hasselhoff pulled a Russian flag through his underpants at a concert in Odessa . The management of the Kubana music festival on the Russian Black Sea coast then refused the band to participate and the musicians had to leave Russia. While leaving, the band was attacked by strangers in the waiting room at Anapa airport , and the police intervened.
