A is a British rock band from Suffolk . They reached their greatest popularity in the early 2000s with the hit singles I Love Lake Tahoe and Nothing .
history
The band emerged from Grand Design , which was founded by the brothers Jason, Adam and Giles Perry together with Mark Chapman and Steven Swindon in 1995 in Suffolk. In the beginning they made their living with jingles , that is, recognition tunes. It was only through a series of concerts that they were discovered in 1996 at London's Kings Cross Splash Club and signed by London Records. Under this label they recorded How Ace Are Buildings , which was not particularly successful despite a tour of 217 concerts. So in 1997 Steve Swindon left the band and Dan P. Carter took his place. With a new line-up, they went back to the studio and recorded the second album A vs. Monkey Kong on (1999).
Although things went better with the single I Love Lake Tahoe , A remained an insider tip. The promotion tour for A vs. Monkey Kong graduated from the band mostly as the opening act for the Bloodhound Gang , with whose members she has been good friends since then.
The tour ended when they were traveling in Germany and Jason lost his voice, which is why he was not allowed to sing for a few months. Only after his recovery did the five go back to Brussels , where they recorded Hi-Fi Serious with Al Clay, who had also worked with them a lot before . After the live album Exit Stage Right (a homage to the legendary live album Exit Stage Left by the Canadian band Rush ), the new album came out in 2002 and brought success. The single Nothing was in the charts across Europe. In 2003 the band toured Japan, where they also have many fans. There she released a second live album.
After a short break due to problems with the record company, A and Terry Date as producer , who has already worked with the Deftones and Soundgarden , recorded the album Teen Dance Ordinance , which was released in 2005, but could not repeat the success of its predecessor. After that it was quiet about the five Englishmen. They then worked on their own projects, which is why the band was put on hold from 2005 onwards. Adam Perry and Dan P. Carter had since left the band and were briefly members of the Bloodhound Gang . The band has been giving concerts again since 2008, but has so far not released any new material.
